I wish UM had the NAU announcer. He maintains his calm.

Mitch strohman and the guy from Sacramento state are the two best radio guys in the big sky. Not even close after that.

Montana does not have a shot blocker on the floor and their perimeter on ball defense is lousy. Teams have figured out that they can attack the Grizzlies off the dribble and score at will with either a close range uncontested shot or at the foul line because Montana fouls on almost every drive to the basket. I believe Southern Utah scored 32 points at the foul line. Tough to win when you can't stop dribble penetration without fouling and no one is there to contest or block shots.

Kind of a chicken and egg thing, tough to stop dribble penetration when you get whistled for breathing on guys. No rim protection has been a weakness all year. Got killed on the offensive glass late once DJ fouled out. Once they quit moving the ball after it got them up 15 and they settled for fade away jumpshots the shooting percentage dropped like a rock. Had to have been 30% the last 25 minutes. Hopefully they can right the ship and play to their strengths or it will be a short stay in Boise I fear.

Last game of the regular season, sets the tone going into the conference tournament. What do I want to see from this game, beyond winning? I want to see crisp ball movement with consistently getting open shots, more penetrating to create fouls or open looks for teammates, smothering defense, and more screens to get our perimeter shooters open looks. Of late, Manuel and Vazquez aren't seeing as many open shots. That has to improve.

Right now, Sayeed is the only player who consistently drives into the paint. I'd like to see Falls and Manuel drive more to the paint. They are both capable of doing that. We need to learn to draw more fouls, when we aren't hitting perimeter shots and Sayeed isn't dominating. If push comes to shove, isolate DCH and/or Owens at all 3 levels, now and then. They are both capable of creating scoring opportunities for themselves and teammates.

I fully expect teams to do everything possible to minimize Sayeed's impact. We will need role players to step up consistently, for the GRIZ to make the NCAA Tournament. That starts in this game.
In terms of taking the ball to the hoop, Egun has a lightning quick first step. Would love to see more Egun. Honestly don’t see why he doesn’t play more. He is a GREAT rebounder from the guard spot, pretty solid defensively, has one of the smoother J’s on the team, and can take it to the hoop. He had a couple games where his jitters got to him, but he has been better since. Don’t get it.
Another slasher who we have but are missing right about now is Gaskin. Don’t get why the NCAA denied his waiver. That made no sense.

I don't pretend to know why guys get waivers or don't but I Do firmly believe that Gaskin will be the best Griz, and probably the best player in conference next year. He is THAT good, folks.

With the addition of gaskin on the floor next year and Vasquez getting a full year under his belt, guard Play will be vastly improved.
