South Dakota Coyotes scouting report

I’m not one of those fans that blows hard about our team. It’s playoffs and absolutely anything can happen.

Our running backs are pretty darn good. Our QB is playing his best football right now. I’ve watched the Griz several times this year and am impressed with your team. It’s a typical Big Sky team. Fast and physical.

Our team literally stunk the first 8 games this year. Stunk. I attribute that to a new head coach learning to be a head coach. Since that point in time, we’ve done a 180. Had we played you in September you would’ve absolutely killed us. We would’ve hung our heads and quit. But something happened in that locker room and this team couldn’t be more opposite than we were at the start of the season.

I’m not good enough at evaluating talent to say how this plays out one way or another. I’m indeed a realist. But this USD team is not USD from yesteryear. We play physical. We are a bend but don’t break defense and after watching your skill players I’m thinking we’ll bend a lot. That being said, saying you need to shut down our run game and doing it are two different things. Phillips is our guy, but we have two others that are close.

My biggest fear is your stadium getting in their head if something goes bad early. You’re great fans and do your part. The flip side, is if we can elevate our play and to some degree control the game a quiet crowd would be fuel for us.

I see it one of two ways. You get a 14-17 point win or we pull a rabbit ( pun intended ) out of our rears and we get a 3 point win. Looking forward to seeing you Saturday. I love playoff football

If we can get SD in obvious passing situations, we got to get home and knock their QB off his spot. He’s a big lefty, hangs in the pocket and throws a really nice ball. If we can knock him around a bit, defense will be fine.

Offensively- Pedal to the metal and don’t back off. If we’re up 20, don’t back off! We need to continue to mix the run and pass until the clock says 00:00. Don’t get one dimensional at any point during the game. Our offense works so well when we are in rhythm and we ignore the clock. We backed off during the Eastern game and it damn near cost us a dub. I don’t foresee making that same mistake.

Given our blitz packages, this appears to be a very good matchup for the Griz. I would be much more worried about playing a team with a mobile QB.

Go Griz.

Good analysis. There's no doubt that USD is a strong team. Coyotes are one of the final 8 out of 129 remaining for a reason. Hoping both teams can perform well and get out healthy. May the best team win!

Had you done your 180 when you beat sdsu?

Yes….with a caveat on that game. We win 24-17. First play they score on a 75 yard run. Score other TD the last play if first half set up by a double bogus call. 30 yards in penalties.

We have a TD called back controversial call. So I get where you’re coming from but that game was never in doubt if that makes sense. Kinda look at it like you with the bobcats. They beat you the last game but they lost to SDSU early in the season. That game should’ve / could’ve been 31-3 in Vermilllion.

SDSU is not very good. Mercer was god awful. Now saying that, USD literally had every break and bounce go their way. Every one. I have no inclination that will repeat itself Saturday in Missoula. We have to be ready for a 60 minute fist fight. Now the question is if your talent level is even better than I think it is, particularly in the passing game, and I do think you’re good, then it might be a long day for us.

I’ll conclude by saying this. I strongly feel the way we’re playing we can beat anyone left in the field. I also know anyone left can beat us. We are on house money. No one expects us to win Saturday outside of that locker room. But they think they can and that’s what matters.

I think your fan base is awesome. The ROAR of that stadium when the roof is falling in on your opponent is deafening. Somehow, some way, we have to try and keep those moments at a minimum. I reflect back last year when we lost in Bozeman, that was the difference. You get “shocked” when a big play happens and the noise is like thunder. I’ve been to Missoula the last 3 times we played you. I never once felt we were good enough to win. This time there’s a different feeling. I guess time will tell.

Cya Saturday

I am still trying to figure out how Ill State won that game. 5 Ints, 1 a pick six and they gave up a punt return for a TD. They had no business being in that game. NDSU's offense was putrid, but still, 5 Ints. WTF?
Ill St should have walked all over NDSU, well they did. 42-18 TOP, 6 first downs, less than 200 yards of offense. The interceptions was the only thing making it close. Ill St lines took NDSU's lines to the cleaners.

That is possibly the best opposition post I've read. Straightforward, well presented, and honestly stated. Nothing like the ruminations we get from the Fat Buffalo. Well done.

Not that my opinion on the enemy board matters, but I also think Illinois State will win. NDSU had less than 200 yards offense.

No Bison…No Jacks. There is a football god
Your opinion on your own board doesn't matter
My and the others who post opinions here pro or con doesn't matter.
Games are not elections. They are won by the score at the end of the 4th qtr.
But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy reading and giving my opinions.
And I very much enjoy getting insights and opinions from a non-troll coyote like you.
You are welcome on egriz anytime. Thanks for posting.

I don't remember either of these things happening, so I looked at the play by play of the game and that shows neither of these things happening. You beat us that day and deserved the win, but that game was every bit as close as the score indicated.

Hope you are staying warm at the dairy farm.
