The fiscal cliff I can handle. It's the football cliff that hurts.

For a minute there, I thought you guys were talking about Cliff Hysell.

HA! I'm not religious at all but when ever I read that name or hear it spoken I take a moment of silence to thank the creator for Coach Hysell's involvement with the msu football program.
Your obviously are thinking of earle solomonson

Oh no! Earle is a different matter altogether and includes genuflecting, self-flagellation and other acts of contrition.

From "The Divide War: Montana's Golden Treasure," by Pat Kearney:

"Cliff Hysell...finished with a 41-47 record ...second place for career wins by a Bobcat coach behind only Sonny Holland who registered 47 victories."

A few thoughts on the issues going on in Missoula...........Everything coming out of Missoula sounds really bad. I know Pat Williams and in fact helped him out with elections so I'm not sure what or why he is doing what he seems to be doing. Enrollment drops are disastrous when enrollment is small to start with. We seem to be dealing with what seems to be 5-10%. Ouch!

When things are this bad the Regents need to take action and ONLY FOCUS on the remedies to get the system healthy again. The athletic situation seems a no win all around-It clearly should have been handled differently but there were several things going on at the same time compounding each other-this in addition to bad management at the top created a fire storm.

Obviously there is need for some fence building in the Alumni, athletic, local and state-wide communities. If Engstrom reaches out to the friends of UM and asks for assistance he might get it but he needs to acknowledge mistakes and ask for help. This should be done sooner than later.

I know my topic seems vanilla but I really hope the university begins the healing process soon.

Go Griz!!

I dont think Pat Williams was on the BOR when Engstrom was hired and if so, you cant blame him for that, but that said, I am not a fan of Pat Williams and in my opinion he has not done much to help UM in the past year. RE was a finalist, but probably the 3rd finalist. The first two guys turned us down and took higher paying jobs on the east coast, so RE won by default. In reality, when the top two candidates declined the offer or withdrew, the BOR should have reopened the search.
