In the days of one home and one road uniform design, how many jerseys did a player (say, a starting DE) go through during one season? Put another way, did one maroon jersey last all season? I know mine was pretty beat by the end of the 8th grade season. Maybe I just got tackled too much . . .

Back in the day. My HS team got a new coach my senior year and he decided to put his stamp on the program by getting all new uniforms and helmets. Unlike previous years. He allowed names on the jerseys. He also decided to not allow the tradition of wearing your jersey during school on gameday and would return the tradition after our first win. We won one game that year. The very last one.

To be fair, it was a strong family, and he was a good kid.

Also, this is an absolutely true story. They made us work on our exchange so much that it took me months to wash the smell of taint sweat off my right hand. He always sucked on game day. That particular day, he had 7 sacks on his own team, and we lost 8-0.

I learned then and there that Tecmo Super Bowl plays required more than we had.
