You got to admit Brent that it wouldn’t be a football board with the requisite half dozen move up threads every year. I’m just surprised the USU guy hadn’t chimed in yet. Slow news day everywhere.

hahaha, I thought he had "egriz, move up" on google alerts so he could jump in every time it comes up! I remember before we had lights in the stadium that was also a regular off-season talking point.

Not quite, Wahlberg. It doesn't concern UM at all, so I didn't say anything about it here. Besides, I think it is just a ploy by Gonzaga to have to share less of the money they make with the other WCC members. I don't think they want to move. But if they did it would be funny to see BYU scramble, because without Gonzaga I don't see the WCC as nearly attractive to them (or anyone else).

He's back!

haha, had to tease you NavyBlue

LOL! No problem. BTW, I was in Missoula this past September and I was amazed at housing costs... :o

As far as "moving up" it looks like the G5 leagues like the Mountain West will become the new de facto FCS...With playoffs in the post season. I am curious what the Griz (and others in the Big Sky) will do then.

Navy, I think your correct that P5 schools will get to a point they no longer play FCS teams and look to G5 schools for OOC “cupcake” games. That being the case, I would think G5 schools may not have the cup cake games just so they can rake in the $ the P5 schools will pay. If all this does happen it could be a devastating blow to FCS schools whom really on those 500k plus payout games.

I would think FCS schools in relative position to make the move to G5 have to be keeping an eye on this.

It would be an even bigger bonus if G5 schools ditched bowl games and instituted a playoff system. This past bowl season was sad, seeing handfuls of people in stadiums. There were only a few bowls that had large crowds.

I have said and will say again. It seems crazy for UM to build facilities like the Champions Center to just to compete in the BSC and FCS.

I hope UM soon offers a masters in nonprofit management. With as many foundations as there are in Montana for enviornmental issues one would think we'd have at least one for collegiate athletics.

Unlike attendance to FCS playoff games, right?

And the hosting school loses more money than the visiting school? Usually...at least the bowls know how to cook the books.

It has been suggested that the G5 schools institute a playoff system. From what I have heard most fans and the G5 school AD's are really against this, since they do not want to expedite their relegation to de facto FCS status. I do understand that point of view, but it seems inevitable at this point. The P5 schools are continuing to break away from G5 and everyone else. I have heard that some P5's are no longer scheduling FCS and I could see some no longer playing G5 eventually.

Acquaintances who still work in the field feel the bowls will continue to be relevant to the G5 constituency. Many of the surveys to the student-athletes in these schools indicate there is a statistically significant preference to playing in a bowl rather than just playing through the season.

Montana's move-up would be to beat a losing MSU team for a change.

Boise State was having a hell of a time beating Montana before they moved up. I bet they wish they had waited.

Without checking the records, didn't Idaho have more success initially than Boise right after their moves up? Nevada went to a bowl game the first year they were eligible as I recall. Anyway, there's no one that I can think of who gives a damn what I think anyway.

Yeah, they were only able to do it 16 of 25 times.
