" ... Someone didn't do their job .... "

I am no less, no more a fan then you. I haven’t said jackstitt about the “new” coach, but I want to offer up one important point here.

Notice this quote in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle from one of the Griz. He’s mentioned there, but I don’t like to bring players into the conversation here. It's in regard to MSU's 4th and 1 conversion late in the game.

  • “That quarterback struggled throwing the ball all day, and we just needed our guys to cover down. Someone didn’t do their job — I’m not sure who — and he’s wide open and it’s a pretty easy throw to make when there’s no one around,”
When I first read it, I thought it was a Stitt comment; my biggest rub against him is that he doesn't take responsibility – throws players, and coaches under the bus. Whether they deserve it or not is beside the point. A true leader takes all the blame and accepts none of the glory, especially in sports.

In my 30 years of watching Griz football, I have rarely seen teams so un-unified as they seem to be under this head coach. It’s been commented on previously on this board, and it shouldn't be under-stated. In football, you go to BATTLE with your teammates every week, and you have each other’s back. You play for the man next to you first, and the one on the sideline (coach) next, and you don't call out a companion in public. This is the only way to survive (win) when the going gets tough.

Stitt’s poor leadership style has already filtered down to the players – i.e., the program. Montana has built a brand on the gridiron, essentially beginning with Don Read, with credit to Gene Carlson. The team would fight – all day, every day, no matter what the circumstance. UM’s opponents once knew that, and it would psychologically wear them down well before kickoff. What has taken decades to build is on the verge of going away, and the responsibility falls upon the scientist in the green hat, and the bureaucrats who hired him. They have taken a different approach to the game, and it feels like the "Montana" tradition is not a part of it.

I don’t waiver in my respect for the athletes and coaches who sacrifice for the university, and perhaps Stitt can still fix this, but this is not a bump in the road: Griz football is clearly off course.

That was by Ryan Johnson. That guy was willing the defense along basically single-handedly. But don't let the facts get in your way, I'm sure you've got plenty more stuff you can complain about.

Ryan Johnson said that....
And he was right. And it doesn't make him a bad teammate and it doesn't mean he wasn't going to battle for every guy on the team.

What he said was absolutely true. That wasn't on Semore or Stitt. It was execution, and sometimes that happens.

"Someone's" a great tackler but maybe their coverage skills are lacking. Bit on the PAP and that was all she wrote. Course when their O had only attempted 9 passes and 59 rushes up to that point, maybe he had a run first mentality. Schann, Hall, or Semore deffenetly should have coached him up in the TO though to watch for the play action. Don't let that TE get by you.

Ok, read the report on today's post season presser and get back to me.

"Gene Carlson"? You must be from Great Falls. I was a student when Carlson was the head coach. They never beat the Cats in the five years I was here. Maybe the poorest five year stretch in recent Griz history.
