some stuff going on at MSU

This is why I hate all the social media these days. This incident is such a non issue. Bignell was having fun and this should never even made the paper. Ash is doing a great job at msu just like coach d is in Missoula.( with discipline )

Correction: Toby Neinas was one of two DB coaches at MSU, not a coordinator. Erick Link was as stated a coordinator... of the special teams.

On a related issue, former MSU DB coach and former Griz player Justin Gaines has, as most know, left North Texas after a two year stint. Also, as many recall, Gaines was the primary recruiter that gained MSU access to Texas recruiting which has diminished considerably in his absence. Rumor is that Gaines would love to return to alma mater.

good catch on that distinction, and it wouldn't hurt to have Gaines' recruiting connections in Missoula :)

This is my first post, but I have been following eGriz for a long time. I just want to point out that our Texas recruiting pipeline is not running dry, not has it "dimisished considerably" since Gaines left MSU in 2010. Unlike most folks on message boards these days, I like to back my statement up with facts and research. I submit to you our Texas recruits for the 2011, 2012 and 2013 classes:

2011:
Kody Grelle, ol, 6-4, 277, Cedar Park HS, Austin, Texas
2012:
Dakota Prukop, QB, 6-2, 177, Fr., Austin, Texas
Marshall Womack, OL, 6-5, 250, Fr., Lakeway, Texas
2013:
Jaylen Price, DB -- 5-10, 175, Fr, Little Elm, TX
Nick Lasane, RB -- 5-11, 200, Fr, Dallas, TX
Folabi Akanbi -- 6-5, 290, Fr, Houston, TX (sadly, he passed away last week)

We are still pulling in quality Texas recruits. No doubt, Gaines helped open up the pipeline into Texas, but we are still opening up doors down there and hopefully, we will continue to do so.

Here's a cat bragging about Texas gunslingers recruited by Ash and crew.

What's wrong with that. Texas is loaded with good players. Great place to recruit. Smart move on the coaches part. Call it what you want. Who cares?

Texas is a hotbed of HS football talent. If the cats can successfully recruit Texas, I don't see why they wouldn't.

I wonder why you call it that...I hate the scats, but I have no fucking clue what you are talking about.

A couple of their players like McGhee are from Euliss, Texas...and he thinks it's a clever insult. It's really not, considering it just opens up to the arguments that they have more Montana players than us, and that we recruit Oregon/Washington heavily. In the end, I really don't care where our players come from, I just want them to be good.

Very good point. The simple fact is that in order to play football at the highest levels of FCS we have to obtain players from out of state. There just isn't enough talent in Montana to feed both UM and MSU with the type of talent it takes to do well in the playoffs. I love seeing a Montana kid do well at either school and welcome those that come in as Grizzlies. Heck, I played with guys who came here from out of state and stayed and have natives that have left. Once your a Griz, you are always a Griz in my book. I say bring in the most talented STUDENT/athletes you can find, let them play some ball and get an education be it from Dallas, Tx or Zurich, Montana.
