Some people already want to throw TM under the bus...

I knew about six people who are at the game i Boone and I was getting a lot of texts left and right talking about how great TM was, even after the picks. TM's upside is huge. There are more mistakes to come, but his ceiling is very high!

And yes, Alpha and Growler both are down on him but for different reasons. Alpha honestly thinks TM isn't a good quarterback, as where Growler is very, very angry that his "White" Grizzlies are starting an african-american QB. Neither are right, but at least Alpha's criticism isn't racially-driven, at least I don't think.

Anyway, about the title of this thread, I haven;t heard any Griz fan I know be down on TM yet.

i don't fault him for the last INT. Desperation time and trying to make something happen. The other two INT's were fairly poorly thrown....

Look at the first instant replay that was shown after the second interception. It's shown from a downfield angle looking back up field. Gratton gets hit in the upper left of the frame. You will see the defender completely block/impede Gratton. The defender completely stopped him. While I couldn't tell for sure, I think McKinney may have been throwing to Gratton. With Gratton not even in the picture, the pass looked, initially, like a horrible throw.

You're right. I'd forgotten about that. The announcers even mentioned it during the play.

Exactly. Could not hear the announcers over the din at the pub, but only the first INT looked like a poor throw. We have not seen a QB look this good this soon in a long time.

Anyone who wants to throw him under the bus is inept and wanting attention. He's young. Only his second start and trying to force some things he shouldn't. he'll come around and be one of the greats

There were some learning experiences tonight. Overall the effort was outstanding, nothing to be ashamed of at all. I think the team will be back better, stronger, and tougher next week and will continue to improve. I have all kinds of hope at this point...much more than I did last year at this time!

One thing I noticed is he starts to throw off of his back foot. Leaving throws short or with little zip on the ball. I also think he becomes more of a threat when they roll him out of the pocket.

Future looks bright for our GRIZ.

I'm not going to jump in the TM bandwagon until he stops throwing off his front foot. Go look at the INT's, he's throwing from the front foot. I agree that he is a wicked threat when he rolls out though!

There are a ton of people who already want to throw Trent McKinney under the bus.

Not me. He is going to be one of the best QBs that we have ever had. :thumb:
     He was legit under pressure in the 2nd toughest place to play in the FCS in his SECOND start. Just clean up the INTs and he will be great...way to go Trent!
i agree, with all that pressure he was under he did great. The first int was a poor decision, the second one while the throw may have been illadvised their line backer smashed into sammy gratton which was a huge non call PI...and the last one was desperation time. As much as i loved JJ it seems that TM is just as good if not better through his first 2 career starts......JJ really turned it on and never looked back during the weber game, so lets see how TM progresses..I CANT WAIT, we are going to have one hell of a special year.

Even though Re-Min can not make a post without including my name in it, I will ONCE AGAIN give you the good, bad, and ugly on McKinney. First, I will admit that he played a very strong game for his second start against a good defense. He showed poise MOST OF THE TIME, and made the right decisions most of the time on when to hand the ball off.

His interception was one time when he seemed to panic and threw behind and long to the receiver. Cost us a TD. He has to learn to throw it away and punt the ball if the play is not there.

Once again, I have been critical of his overall accuracy, especially on longer throws, and we saw that revealed in this game. His accuracy may improve with time, but in many cases accuracy (or lack of it) does not improve much over a career. QBs either have it, or do not have it. The posters who said that we could have had more scores if Trent had been more accurate were correct.

All in all, I think Trent has a much brighter future as the Griz QB than I predicted before the season. I do not think he will ever be as accurate a passer as JJ, but he is obviously a better runner, which may make him more effective in the offense we are running.

Haven't heard anyone actually doing that yet, he threw for 300 yards, 3 TDs and ran for 1. However G1 and Alpha aren't on here yet, haha.

Trent will be just fine, he's going to be a thorn in a lot of teams sides for years now.

Pickle Boy couldn't complete a pass in Little Grizzly football. He can't see over the line he is so short, and his arm is so weak he couldn't complete a handoff let alone a pass. :loser:

I know how tough lending praise for TM was for you and I'm proud of you :D. McKinney does need to learn to hang in the pocket a little longer when it's a passing down. A couple of times on 3rd and 5+, he would look for his first read and then bail for the run.

Did the orderlies leave the door unlocked again on the padded room? You are one synapse short of a brain cell.

I think he showed remarkable poise for a freshman in a hostile environment. He has good feet and appears very coachable. That being said, he showed some limitations in his ability to lead the receiver on downfield throws and when he is not set with his feet, even his short throws sailed today. That being said, I think he is ahead of where JJ was at this time last year. I think a person can watch a game and make some critiques of a players strengths and weaknesses without it throwing someone under the bus.
 Great post.

The biggest thing Griz Nation learned about McKinney in the ASU game was that he is a fierce competitor and winner! I know we came up short on the scoreboard, and I'm not one for moral victories usually, but under all the circumstances the Griz served notice to the FCS that the Griz are alive and well...and they have found themselves one hell of a young QB, and a keep you up at night running attack with Dan Moore and co (OL). I'm busting with pride from that ASU game.

For a freshman starting his 2nd game in a hostile environment against a very good defense, he played extremely well. Very composed. A lot of freshman would have gotten rattled at many points during that game. The best part is that he is only going to get better.
