Some HOT home-court pre holiday Griz & GrizWBB hoops on tap

Four of the next five home Griz and GrizWBB games scheduled over the next 12 days promise some hot competition for Griz fans. Except for the Montana men's Dec. 10 game vs. Yellowstone Christian, Montana's Dec.8 game vs. Air Force and all three Montana WBB games promise -- on paper at least -- some pretty intense competition.

The Griz host Air Force on Wednesday. After serving as the Mountain West doormat, of sorts, for the past several seasons, Air Force is currently among the top four teams in the conference standings with a 7-1 record that includes wins over Tulsa, Texas Southern and Army. The Griz are Kenpom's predicted winner (67-60), with Montana considered the more efficient team on offense.

The Montana women will host three teams with 4-3 records, with two of the teams -- Utah Valley and Seattle U -- sporting non-conference wins over Big Sky teams. The Griz will host the UVU Thursday. The Wolverines beat Southern Utah 60-54 in Cedar City and have a 19-point 62-43 home court win over Portland State. Seattle University, which the Griz beat last season, beat Sacramento State 71-67 at Sacremento in late November and (interestingly to me) edged Boise State 63-61 in Boise over the weekend. Former Lady Griz coach Mike Petrino is now an assistant at Boise State. Utah State -- a women's hoops Mountain West Conf. doormat over the past several seasons -- is a bit harder for me to peg. The Aggies beat Montana in Logan last season, but finished in the MW cellar. Their best win so far this season is an 85-75 verdict over Cal St Fullerton in Logan.

Five games in 12 days. Cool. I'll be there. Go Griz. Go GrizWBB.
