Practice today was out in the riverbowl, about 25 - 30 people at any given time were watching, all 3 news stations were there recording and interviewing. It was wide open and I figure some light observations on here are worth sharing. Once the practices move inside Wa Griz they'll be "closed" so yeah.
Keep in mind - all of this was helmets only, hence everyone looks faster/better - a lot of times when the pads come on some guys step up while others scale back.
- Trevor Poole is out for most of fall camp with a back issue, that's been posted by a few reporters.
- Haynes and Walcott did not participate but were there.
- Marquin Russell was the only no-show that I'm aware of.
- With Poole out they rotated left tackles, the JuCo kid wearing #60 gave it a go (or if one lineman changed number like LaRowe or Kelly), so did Deitrich, who finished out the day at LT. Neither looked great at it.
- The late addition center is wearing #75 and he is HUGE but appeared to be in decent shape, wasn't totally worn out like we see happen to some bigger guys.
- A new WR, tall kid, wearing #85 impressed me with some good hands.
- Some of the younger WRs, Carver and Burke especially made some nice plays.
- TraVon Van looks good, strong, healthy - that's a good thing.
- Ellis Henderson didn't practice much, per a tweet from someone else there, Shaun Rainey I think, it's a minor injury but nothing to worry about.
- Starting WRs were Jones, Naccarato, and.... Marq Rogers - who is looking great.
- Herbert Gamboa is now wearing #36 and looks like a starting linebacker, broader shoulders, added muscle weight on his upper body, starting with Kose and Van Ack.
Two beauties of plays today;
1. Play-fake bootleg roll out with JJ, finds Jamaal Jones cutting across the field about 35 yards down, JJ puts the ball right on Jones' finger tips, past the hands of a diving Josh Dennard - and Jones takes it to the house for a TD.
2. Final play of the practice, SSH in the shotgun, Chase Naccarato in the slot just fires upfield and catches Mick Delaney (the player) flat on his heels, shoots right past him and hauls in an easy pass for a long TD.
