Lots of So Cal Griz fans might be disappointed if they have waited to buy tickets for the game here. USC ticket office told me that they were "mystified" that UM would be such a draw at Galen Center, on 11/11. It is totally sold out and that is rare, indeed, for USC..it is the feature game of the PAC12 Network that night.

Can anyone give us an Idea of how these teams matchup? What kind of chance would you give the Griz? Score predictions?
Thanks in advance.

Well screw you DirecTV! Was hoping to watch it...

That conflicts with what the USC ticket office tells me. I called them several weeks ago and was told tickets would not go on sale until after October 15. When I called this morning, they repeated the message. Said they didn't even have the tickets yet. When I asked if there was any chance of the game selling out, she said no.

Somebody dropped the ball, then. I talked at length to the ticket office. Well, we will see tomorrow when I call with your info. Should be interesting.

updated. Tickets for the USC game are available for groups of 10 at a special price of @$20...individual tickets are not available until groups are satisfied or until the 15th and will vary from $10 to $25...Since USC is a very real possible PAC!@ champ, the interest in LA is strong...This is a real challenge for the Griz and is definitely a "statement" game...the student I first talked to is up to speed, now..lol

I can't imagine ticket sales will be all that hot. USC averaged less than 5,000 a game last year, for a team that went 16-2 at home. They do have 2 fulltime starters and one part-time starter back this year, but they'll be playing a lot of newcomers as well.

I don't think any of you will have any problems getting tickets if you want....USC hasn't even sold out for UCLA in several years...in fact, they only averaged 4,600 in the Galen Center which seats 10,250...don't see much of a problem unless you're planning to fly the whole state of Montana to L.A.

Well, their ticket office and athletic dept certainly don't share your pessimism..The problem with USC is that it is hard for most LA people to get to these days due to traffic and unbelievable amounts of new construction in the downtown area. I'd love to see more Griz fans than were at UCLA a couple years back but Griz fans don't turn out for the team here. I wonder if this says more about the dwindling interest overall of students and staff nationwide. Seems most places are like that. UCLA doesn't sell out either. That is why I was surprised to hear, mistakenly, it seems, of the UM -USCgame being impossible to get ticket for.

Well that is good. I hoped to make the trip up for the game from San Diego. So here is hoping there are some tickets left come next week.

I will bet you that the Galen Center will be no more than half full for the Griz game....as I said, they average about 38% of capacity for the Pac12 season....

Since it is a holiday week end and the weather will be nice, you might be right but I'd like to see the numbers of Griz fans that turnout for football sit behind the Griz and support them. But, any way you look at it, with just the usual crowd at USC it still will be vastly more than Sac State has and Sac State, I believe, has a larger enrollment. Personally, I'm glad the tics are available.

Got my tickets. I'll be in the Jack Nicholson seats.

Going with my long-time friend and Tar Heel alum who was with me when we beat UCLA. Some game! Montana won going away; the game wasn't nearly as close as the final score. Am hoping for another upset this Friday, but that's gonna be tough without Alphonso and Oguine. Any late word on Oguine?

Projected to be back between early and mid December.

I was at that game and the small crowd was shocked into silence. I also think that was one of the last times it rained in LaLa Land...I don't think USC will be caught off guard by UM...they are going to run, run, run, or so I'm told, but with Dunn and company, that might be easier said than done. SC has a good coach who is turning that program around. This game could be fun to watch.

LOS ANGELES -- It's more about reloading than rebuilding at Southern California. The Trojans reached the NCAA Tournament last season after winning just five Pac-12 games the previous two years under coach Andy Enfield.

They have some holes to fill this season after their second- and third-leading scorers left school early only to be undrafted and four other players transferred after going 21-13 and losing to Providence by one point in the opening round of the NCAAs.

But the starting five should more than pick up the slack, along with some transfers and four freshmen.

The Trojans were picked to finish seventh by the media in the Pac-12. They had just two league victories in Enfield's first season, three in 2015 and nine last season, when they went .500 in league play.

"We lost a couple top players to the NBA draft early," Enfield said, "but the nice thing for our program is we had some returnees that were talented and we still think we can compete."

The Trojans were the second-highest scoring team (80.5 points per game) last season and could bump it up this season.

USC will be seeking a return trip to the NCAA Tournament and its first victory there since 2009.

They open the season against Montana on Nov. 11 at Galen Center, where they play five of their first six. Their non-conference schedule includes visiting Texas A&M on Nov. 18, hosting SMU on Nov. 25 and playing BYU at Staples Center on Dec. 3.

Some things to watch for this season with USC:

FRONTCOURT: It appears to be the biggest question mark, with sophomores Chimezie Metu (6-11) and Bennie Boatwright (6-10) the only returnees over 6-5. Metu averaged 6.4 points and 3.6 rebounds in 18.5 minutes as a freshman last season; Boatwright averaged 11.5 points and 24.4 minutes. Boatwright tied for the team lead with 60 3-pointers. Metu added 15 pounds over the summer.

ADDITIONS: The Trojans' perimeter-oriented lineup adds three guards: Louisville transfer Shaqquan Aaron and freshmen Jonah Mathews and De'Anthony Melton. Aaron is eligible after sitting out last season and will be eager to show what he can do. Mathews can shoot from long range and drive to the basket. Melton brings a defensive mindset. Forward Charles Buggs, a graduate transfer from Minnesota, will be eligible immediately. Forwards Harrison Henderson and Nick Rakocevic are 6-10 freshmen. Henderson could be a project whose skills need developing. Rakocevic, along with Buggs, could help replace Nikola Jovanovic, who averaged 12.1 points and 7.0 rebounds before leaving early.

BACKCOURT: Third-leading scorer Julian Jacobs (11.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 5.5. assists) opted to leave early for the NBA draft. His absence turns the point guard reins over to Jordan McLaughlin, who led the Trojans in scoring with 13.4 points per game and shot 42 percent from 3-point range last season. After enduring shoulder injuries his first two seasons, the junior is healthy.

REBOUNDING: Aaron figures to join junior Elijah Stewart and McLaughlin in the three-guard lineup. Stewart shot 43 percent from long-range last season and came up big with 27 points against Arizona before tailing off in five of the final six regular season games. Stewart and Aaron will be counted on heavily to rebound because of the Trojans' lack of size. "Our offense is kind of a run-and-gun 3-point offense," Stewart said.

STAY HEALTHY: The Trojans will need to stay healthy because they're short on depth after Darion Clark, Katin Reinhardt, Malik Martin and Malik Marquetti all transferred. Reinhard averaged 11.4 points last season.

All I could find! Interested to see how they match up!

...a great time of year...
...a great game tonight...

One of the articles I read talked about how early the USC bench players will get into the game. I hope the Griz keep it close and pull it out in the end. Sounds like a huge size mismatch in this one. If the threes fall the griz can win this one.
