So What Changes?

OK, we've beat up the quarterback and the basic offense. Personally, I don't see anything changing with either of those in the next two weeks. Realistically, given that it's only two weeks away, what changes would you make (both strategy and personnel) between now and November 17th?

I assume you're aware that UM leads the conference in total offense and is 10th in the nation.
I assume that you are aware that of the top 6 defenses in the BSC you have played only 1 and in scoring offense you are 5th

I thought the color commentator made an astute observation... the Griz offense is bust, bust, boom. If and when we can't make the "big play", we're 3-and-out. I have to give props to Pete and Canada, their "elusiveness in the box" (the front seven), is what makes this offense run MORE than anything else. How many dozens of times have these two squirts made the first - and maybe the second - tackler miss. If not for them, this offense would be dead and buried. :(

It would be a good start, to be tighter when our opponent has less than 7 yards to go for a 1st down. That soft coverage in medium and short downs, makes no sense. Especially when our dbs momentum is going the opposite way when they come up on the play, a missed tackle is deadly. If we are tight, we are not giving them anything easy, and forcing our opponent to complete a more difficult pass. This season, for the most part, we have let QBs pick a way at our defense.

Yeah, sounds about right to me. Seems to me this is not player/performance, but the scheme. I've been stunned that the coaches haven't seen that and adjusted. Is that something you can fix in two weeks?

Can the pass defense get much worse? I sure hope not. I believe showing confidence in our secondary would go a long way going into next season. (1) It gives the staff an idea who can do it. (2) Allows the staff to know more who needs to work on what. (3) Holds the players more accountable. (4) Lessens the pressure on Gregorak. If they do bad, he can say "We have struggled in pass coverage schemes all season, and thought changing it up would benefit the team." It would be true, and hard to fault them for trying to change it up, at the very least. I can live with bad results if they are trying to correct them. Which is not something Gregorak has done often this season. I will give him credit for a great front 7 though. :thumb:

The scheme can be changed up but the Griz still have to account for the poor play of Hermanson and Tully. Even if you have press coverage from the CB's, what will happen at Safety? For coverage purposes, I would seriously think about rotating in some "back up" corners at the Safety position for this game. Otherwise, MSU could go NORTH DAKOTA on the Griz safeties which would lead to a long afternoon for the defense. The good news is that you have two weeks to get the CB's reps at Safety and integrate them into the defensive game plan. Who knows? It might work.

What changes? After checking the Missoula County Jail Roster, zero Griz players were arrested and thrown into jail his weekend. That is a solid change :thumb:

How about running a couple of reverses like we did last year. Missed the Weber game hunting but I do not remember us running a reverse once this year to keep the D on the back side honest. Last year I bet we averaged a couple a game to Jabin.

So, are they the top 6 defenses BECAUSE they haven't faced the Griz yet? 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

It is hard to bitch about the offense, the results have been good, and the last 3 weeks have taken care of the ball much better.

I really would like to see how more aggressive coverage schemes would go. Bobcats are every bit as turnover prone this season as the GRIZ were. It be a sad day to watch the Cats pick apart our soft coverage schemes. I believe we will get to Denarius a lot, how well do we contain him? Don't let him get away the ball quickly.

I also would love to see Adam B get some quality possessions, if Hahn struggles.

Want to see Kemp get used a lot, to end his SR year on a high. He got screwed by the NCAA this year.

Kemp wasn't really screwed by the NCAA, he was screwed by an admin in Grizzly Athletics that was worried about what the NCAA might do. Ask Jean Gee why she held Kemp out, it was her call.

Nope, as usual, what you just said is incorrect. UM had played the no. 1 and no. 3 Scoring Defenses (NAU and EWU), and the nos. 2 and 3 defenses measured by Total Defense (NAU and EWU).

By contrast, the Cats have played only 1 of the top defenses (no. 3 EWU). The Cats have played nos. 12, 11, 9, 8 and 7 defenses, measured by Total Defense.

Doesn't coaching have something to do with being the "top offense in the nation??? I've see some denial from PR, but THIS is amazing.....

Because we don't have our qb and some bad bounces earlier in the season. With our qb, we're 10-0 and contending for the national championship. Without the Irish lad, MSU isn't even .500. I'm thinking we have a good shot at beating the Cats. In fact, I'm predicting a victory.

The past 10 games are over and this is it !!! If Dan Moore plays with up to 90% + movement it will be huge ! There is little film out on him this year, meaning preparation is brutal. Get Kemp an extra 5 touches in the game plan. Also, put Kemp on kick and punt return as the lead returner. Defense...oooohhhhh. Practice stripping the ball 20 minutes extra for the next 8 practices. Look what it's doing for the Chicago Bears D...(they practice this maneuver 20 extra minutes as a unit) Maybe extra DEEP ball practice for corners and safeties. Someone is gonna have to make a play! These changes are reasonable at this time...

I hope they do add 40 minutes to each practice, especially with the NCAA already snooping around, they will be able to ad another violation to the list

Take the head coach, off coordinator, def coordinator, starting QB away from the cats preseason would they be even close to a 5-5 squad????
