Can you name one example in college football where a program is consistently in the top 10-15 and the school fires this successful head coach with the idea that they need someone new to “get them over the hump or get them to the next level” and it has worked??? I can’t think of one. Can name several that took the program back down.

Off the top of my head? No, I cannot. However, I can't think of a situation where a perennial top 10 team has to settle for their sixth choice for head coach either. There is a reason he wasn't high on their list and to me it is evident his decision making is highly suspect on and off of the field.

not that any of this matters... But, I Think Vigen does a pretty good job running that program. You have to give him some credit with what he has done with previous QB's in college. Josh Allen is a great talent for Wyoming and obviously evaluators missed on that. However, He still progressed through college and became the 7th pick. I think you have to give some credit to Vigen for at least not ruining his potential.
 
Well they are 7-0 with sixth choice and UM is 5-2 with first choice so he must be doing a lot of things right. Likely will be 2-2 against the Griz after November. I give him credit for shaking up staff (maybe due to legal reasons he had to delay but still got it done), and seems to be doing better recruiting head to head to boot. He lost 3 linemen (O/D) to portal that start at FBS schools and seems to still have very good lines (including a starting center that was at UM first). 24-3 conference record isn't too shabby considering same time period Bobby is 18-8. I do think a big test will be next year after Tommy graduates and has to play with his recruits and not some key Choate guys to see how it all turns out but watching this years games on TV I would not expect a crash. He has a a lot of good younger guys/transfers playing well that have zero to do with Choate. Now that he will have 2 kids on team I do not see him jumping ship so we will likely have to deal with him for the rest of Bobby's extension so we will really find out who truly "owns" the state. If I was Bobby I would surely not stubbornly coast along with same staff and methods if this year flops. Here's to hoping the bye week and two "winnable" games on the road can fix some visible issues, and then home wins against PSU and Davis and a shocker in Bozo to get the griz back to a top 4-8 team and get some homefield playoff games as we all saw what that homefield meant to the run last year.

Vigen is headed to a bigger school sooner rather than later. I'm guessing he will follow Coate's and Entz's examples.

I realize the pay is better, but I’m not convinced a job at say, Nevada, UNLV, or the New Mexico schools is better than either Montana school. Should either Montana school move up, which is unlikely, they’re immediately better than any of those jobs. In the meantime, there’s something to be said about staying at an “easy” job where you’re already at the top of what you do. Heck, two in state recruits chose Bozeman over Nevada. All you’ll do at those jobs is struggle to be mediocre and wish you were back where you can win.

Counterpoint: The pay is a pretty big part of any job. Further, at Nevada, UNLV, New Mexico, etc., you have less pressure because the expectations are lower. Make a bowl game at 7-5, get a bonus and a pat on the back. If the Montana school coaches lost five games for three seasons in a row, they would be putting homes on the market. Lastly (and not specific to either Bobcat or Griz coach), weather can mean a whole lot more to people than some tend to realize. I mean, if you offered me less pay, more responsibility, and higher performance standards in exchange for living through Bozeman's seven-month winters, I would say, "Lose my number." The same concept might apply in reverse.

Last year sucked, and you're exactly right in that Cats just couldn't close the deal in the huge games. On the road at SDSU - losing that heartbreaker on a questionable call, losing at ID in another heartbreaker. missed FG, and then of course the blocked XP in overtime against the Bizons. Talk about three games that came down to millimeters and being "oh so close" to going the other way. Obviously the griz ass kicking was the only game where the Cats just flat out got outplayed.

So far this year the Cats have been in ONE epic brawl that came down to the wire and they pulled it off and got the W. I like what I'm seeing, and hearing from the players and coaches regarding the culture and unity. 24 Senior leaders and a butt load of talent. I think that blocked XP game last year was the first time the Cats have lost at home in like 5 or 6 years or something like that. Can ID come in and pull that off? We'll find out Saturday night.

This just in, Cats are pretty good. Vigen might be an OK X's and O's guys after all, just waxing the #7 team in the country... and the 38-7 score cold have been a hell of a lot worse. Tommy apparently knows how to pass. Vigen knows how to recruit and build GOOD depth. Three games on a row where the Cats have lost valuable starters on the defense to career\season ending ACL injuries... ugh. Blake Schmidt, Caden Dowler, and Danny U. Ugh. Didn't seem to skip a bit on defense with the backups coming in. Double repping helps. This is what the DSUs do, and as I said earlier in this post, that's where Vigen came from and he knows what it takes to be a consistent national championship contending team. Again, that's why he's here.

Last point I'll make, which I've said 100 times, it's VERY hard to beat the Cats in Bozeman. See y'all on November 23rd.

I don’t disagree with that either. And these guys are all competitive and want to move up and think they can succeed.

What is your outlook if the griz lose to NAU on Saturday? If that happens, or if the griz drop one other game and them lose to the Cats, do they miss the playoffs completely? If that happens, are there any gris fans alive (besides PR) that would want to keep Bobby around? From Frisco to missing the playoffs in one year appears to be an epic coaching meltdown.

Nobody ever said that. What is factually true is that for a period of 25 years, Bobby Hauck was the only coach that had a winning record there. Come on, man. UNLV is a tough job. Congrats to their coach currently, but the fact is that in a quarter century, Hauck was the only coach there that had a winning season.
