SNEED'S PRE-SNAP CROUCH !?!?

Anyone know why the staff doesn't address this? This isn't normal in any shotgun snap count, whether silent, clap, verbal, or some other signal; is it?

Defenses HAVE GOT TO be keying in on this, no? I would imagine any blitz is using this as a sure fire headstart. I would think that the few defenses that topped the Griz offense keyed in on this specific dead giveaway, namely UC davis in the 2nd half.

Any thoughts?

Yep brought it up a long time ago, but it hasn’t changed. If we are seeing it, I guarantee it’s being keyed on (that was evident in some games). Not sure if staff has tried or if it’s habit or if they are actually using it to their advantage in some weird clever Bobby way.

It's not nearly as concerning as the fact that he all but points to the receiver to which he's going to throw before the snap, and then never lets his eyes go elsewhere during the play. It's working now, so don't mess with it.

It works with 2 of the worst teams in the BSC. Maybe that works for you - but I have higher goals for the Griz.

Perhaps the ball is to be snapped on either the first, second or third time he does that.

Can you all of you experts inform us how the center is "told" to snap the ball?

Nothing to worry about to me. If we know about it and so do all opposing defenses then so do Bobby, Rosenbach, Pease, Sneed and everyone else. Maybe we can draw some offsides with it.

This will be a great game for Sneed to prove his leadership and really shine. What a great opportunity for him. For the rest of the team as well for that matter. There is no regular season game like the Cat game when they have a competitive team. Sneed will find that out Saturday.

If you didn't notice...Idaho tried to key that exact thing multiple times and were off sides. we often go on multiple counts. It's no different than teams that go off of hand clap. Watch any shotgun offense and they all have a tell and there are only a few things you can do to try and disguise the snap. Defenses also time the leg lift by the QB, the shoulder tilt forward by the QB. To be honest...its not a big deal.

All those other signals used that you describe are used as counts - they can go on the 2nd, or 3rd hand clap, or not at all (clap could be a decoy), etc.

Sneed's crouch is not a count (or disguised count), i.e., he can't fake crouch a snap and/or go on the 3rd crouch. So, it's not exactly the same thing...

Put your minds at ease… if you watch game film Sneeds Crouch is only done post ball movement/snap.If a quarterback were to move like that pre-snap,Bob his head,Thrust his arms or shoulders in a manner to try and draw defense offsides it would be a penalty for illegal motion. Quarterbacks can clap, fake a clap, raise one leg to signal a motion but they cannot move their body in a way to draw a defense.Defenses have no advantage to this “Crouch” As it is being done after the ball has already moved.I’m going out on a limb here when I say he’s probably doing that because a third of the snaps for all of the Montana quarterbacks have been at their knees or lower.Cody is doing a great job up there but he is the number three Center being moved from oline to play that position!!!

Most of these jackasses don’t understand how modern football is played. I doubt they’d be able to explain anything about the game, much less QB/Center communication as it pertains to the snap.

This. A lot of teams have been jumping off sides on hard counts as well against the Griz. I think trying to anticipate the "crouch" may be causing it. Try and anticipate something could mean giving the Griz free plays and 5 yards. Sneed is very good pre reading defenses and does know where he wants to go with the ball before it is snapped.

Lapdig,
Actually it's right before the snap that the crouch occurs. Legal or not, it is actually occurring about a half second before the snap.

Slow motion it on your DVR, you'll see every snap he definitely crouches before ball is snapped.

Not sure if it helps or hinders the opposing defenses, but it is definitely occurring and occurring prior to ball movement.

I hope some of you are correct, in that other D's don't care, or that it may even hurt other D's attempt at perfectly timing the blitz.

To a layman, it seems that it definitely doesn't add value to the Griz offense and, possibly, it could hinder them.
