Sneed v Anderson

Sneed is a great runner, TA is a phenomenal runner. TA is literally almost unstoppable when he gets into the open field. Sneed is a significantly better passer, especially if he has some time.

..TA is by far the best athlete on the field and once in space he extremely difficult to bring down..
the solution is to keep him contain in the box...sounds simple but not easily done..hopefully
our linebackers will have him in the bullseyes everyplay...

This game is largely Troy Andersen versus the Griz. The kid was a very marginal QB in high school and still is. Yet he is a great football player who is almost certain to break some long runs and find the end zone. In other words, we can probably expect another one of those 3 and 37 situations to go for an MSU 1st down (for the 3rd year in a row).

Well THAT sure as fuck better not happen. We fired an entire coaching staff to prevent shit like that from happening ever again.

Choate descriptors for Snead at Mon Presser- tough, physical, competitive, can make all the throws.

"Sneed is not just is an excellent passer, but he's a very good runner (elusive). And he's their leading rusher. He's a true dual-threat guy."

The reason Troy Anderson averages 8 yards a carry this season is because he has averaged 1.3 runs of 50+ yards a game (13 of them). The dude is big and fast.

Hate to put bones in your ice cream but the true QB comparison for this game is Murray v. Anderson. Troy runs as well as Chris but is a better passer. This game will be tougher than the past two.

I actually disagree, Murray is a better passer than Andersen. And Murray ran a run-oriented offense, triple option offense, better than Andersen does.

I mean if we had Murray this year we'd have Murray running a triple option, diamond formation with Ifanse and Troy Andersen behind him. And Murray could complete some deep balls.

In their first year at QB, Anderson throws for more yards a game than Murray, and Anderson also rushes for more yards a game than Murray.

I find it hilarious that we had 3 QBs take snaps in our last blowout win.

Cats also had 3 “QBs” take snaps in their last blowout win.

The difference? The other 2 UM QBs were actually QBs, being developed for depth and future. The other 2 for the cats were both WRs in a wildcat formation (nothing to do with depth/future). This tells me not only do the cats suck at QB, but that they suck really bad and likely will for a while. Otherwise, wouldn’t one of their new recruits take a few late game snaps, esp. given the new redshirt rule?

How can Choach suck so bad at finding a QB? Seriously? To be in this situ in year 3 means he’s either incompetent or.....what? You tell me. If you just give me a bunch of bad luck excuses, again, it’s year 3. When does cat nation expect choach to actually deliver a real QB? Does that take 6 years in Blowsmen? I guess I could see that, as you’ve had exactly one in my lifetime. This must be the reason for the Premature Extension Disorder:
“holy shit, he beat the Griz twice and he’s still got 4 years to find the most important position. LOCK HIM UP! LOCK HIM UP!”

I'm not disagreeing with you, but one very important element is that Murray had Anderson in the backfield, Anderson doesn't have Murray in the backfield. That's a huge difference in my opinion. Both are extremely gifted athletes.

Choate can't recruit a QB? Yes, yet to be determined, but cats feel they have them.

Murray was going to be a 3rd year starter this season... gone/academics.
Anderson wins the QB battle, between him and former 4-star transfer Choate brings in.
Choate uses 4-star speed/athleticism (fastest kid on team) at WR and Wildcat QB in the red-zone.
Rs-Fr Tucker Rovig plays four early games, one of them outstanding (23-34, 310 yards, 67.6%, 3 TD, 0 INT, 47 Long)...season ending injury. (Rovigs' four game he completed 61.8% of his passes, which is higher than Gresch Jensens' All-American Rs-Fr sesaon).
And the staff is very high on Casey Bauman, a true Freshman, who they have put in (utilizing the new 4 game red-shirt rule)...he will retain his red-shirt (BUT I WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED TO SEE HIM IN THIS WEEKEND--something UNEXPECTED FOR SURE!) HA
They also have a two-time All-State QB from Arizona as a true freshman, from a very good HS, in Ruban Beltran. (Centennial HS, where he was a two-time state champion).

True, but he does have Jonsen, Ifanse, and now Jones back there. Pretty gifted athletes in that group too.

It's been a weird ride to get here at QB for sure. It could have been handled better by Choate but to me there wasn't much left to work with when he was hired. And to Choate's defense he tried to fix it by signing Tyler Bruggman who on paper seemed like he could at least be a competent Big Sky QB, but that was a big recruiting whiff as we know now.

Prukop left before Choate had a spring ball. All that was left at the end of 2015 was Jordan Hoy, a freshman, and Brady McChesney, a serviceable backup talent. It's not like there was a QB sitting on the roster waiting in the wings, although Hoy might've been that guy. Spring ball in 2016 consists of Tyler Bruggman, Brady McChesney, and freshly back from his LDS mission Ben Folsom. Jordan Hoy started spring ball but quit like the first week.

Choate is thinking we're okay since Bruggman looks really good in practice. Turns out he's one of those practice superstars, but we won't find this out until the 2016 season starts. Murray and PWO Kamden Brown join the team in the fall as true freshman, so we have Bruggman, Brown, Murray, McChesney, and Folsom trying out at QB.

At this point I'm okay with what transpired so far, but the offseason after the 2016 season is where Choate should've tried to land a JC or dropdown QB. Bruggman was clearly not going to be it and transferred out before the 2017 season starts, and Murray is clearly not a Big Sky level QB throwing the ball. Instead he signs his hopeful QB of the future Tucker Rovig, Callahan O'Reilley who I don't think he had any intention of actually playing at QB, and Luke May transfers from Minn to throw his hat into the ring after not playing QB for a few years, or even football. Essentially he puts all his money on Murray to be the guy in 2017.

After 2017 comes to another losing end, he then goes out and signs a highly ranked high school QB in Casey Bauman, but he's a true freshman from a small school classification. So he brings in Travis Jonsen, a former 4 star recruit and a top 5 dual threat out of high school, who transferred from Oregon to JC to MSU. Jonsen breaks his foot before spring ball even started this year so the coaches never got to evaluate him. If he doesn't break his foot, maybe the coaches realize he's not the answer in spring ball and hit the "free agency" again. Murray has academic issues and has to leave the team and Tucker Rovig is a redshirt freshman who just isn't ready yet. But the staff probably still thinks either Jonsen or Rovig will be able to handle the job, but they go and talk to Andersen just to see if he can provide some depth. And while they work in Rovig as the season progress, just about to name him the starting QB moving forward he gets his foot stepped on in practice and is out for the year.

Obviously you have to hold him accountable at some point but there has been a host of factors that have contributed the situation we are in now. Prukop leaving for his senior season, Jordan Hoy transferring out, Tyler Bruggman being a bust for lack of a better word, Travis Jonsen breaking his foot not long after setting said foot on campus, and Tucker Rovig's disappearance in spring, reemergence in fall and into the season and then season ending injury.

Fun read. Thanks.
It all falls on the head ball coach, no matter what. Ask our former coach.
That's life in the NFL.
