Simis and Kupp share Offensive Player of the Week

Of course, the way Kupp is playing, no one else may win the award the rest of the season. Any word on whether he might declare for the draft? Some of the mock draft numbers for him, among WRs, are pretty impressive.

On the one hand, that didn't work out very well for Brandon Kaufman.

On the other hand, if Kupp stays next year, he'll turn 24 years old a few weeks after the 2017 NFL draft, so staying another year doesn't do much for him other than give him one less year to make NFL money, and one year older compared to get professional coaching. What left would he have to prove if the NFL is a goal of his at EWU?

I guess the voters didn't watch Prukupp play.

Against a high school team!

I'm sorry! An NAIA team.

Actually, ETSU is FCS. Just really BAD FCS since this is their first year back in the game of football since 2003, I believe. ;)

It's the Big Sky Conference / FCS football. Six TDs from a QB is the name of the game. EWU QBs are good for a few of those a season. Good for Simis in his first start though. Impressive.

Sooooo, if that's just par for the course, then whats the big effing deal with the Kupper? Shit, if everyone is simply tossing it around for 450 and 6 every game, shouldn't a wideout get a few catches now and again?

A little contradictory there, GDTBAN, no??

He was complimenting Simis, yet you're such an insufferable ass that you took it as an insult.

As much as I enjoy watching him play, I agree. He's got ZIP/NADA/SQUAT left to prove at the college level.

Yeah, he was complimenting Simis in the same way your parents tell you you're intelligent.

Yes. He won it: http://www.goeags.com/sports/m-footbl/2015-16/releases/15fbSept21WestPOW
Very good. Thanks.

Yeah, that's the worst kept secret in all of eastern Washington. Apparently he told the team and coaches before the first game at Oregon that this was his last season.

Simis did win a national POW honor.

"MAKENA SIMIS IS CFPA FCS NATIONAL PERFORMER OF WEEK 8"

They don't have an image of Simis posted yet.

The FBS POWs are listed first. Scroll down a tad.

Montana quarterback Makena Simis and Eastern Washington receiver Cooper Kupp shared the ROOT SPORTS Offensive Player of the Week … Simis had a record-breaking performance in his first career start for Montana. The third-string sophomore quarterback tied a school record with six touchdown passes for 321 yards on 15-of-22 passes. Simis' breakout performance led the Grizzlies to a key 42-16 win over North Dakota.

Kupp finished with school records of 20 catches and 275 yards, and also scored three touchdowns. That brought his career totals to 281 receptions, 4,338 yards and 52 touchdowns. A pair of second quarter grabs broke the previous league receptions record …
Very nice, right? Kupp deserves all the accolades he gets. But apparently, a six-TD performance doesn't even get you an Honorable Mention with some folks.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Cooper Kupp, Eastern Washington, WR, R-Jr., 6-2, 205, Yakima, Washington

It feels like Kupp sets a record with every game. ... Kupp is six TD receptions shy of the record 58 caught by New Hampshire's David Ball from 2003-06. Kupp's career exploits have come in only 35 games.

Honorable Mention: Chase Edmonds, RB, Fordham; Blake Veasley, RB, Central Arkansas
Mind you, this is nothing against Edmonds or Veasley: Edmonds gained 347 yards rushing, with 3 TDs, and Veasley had 292 yards with 4 TDs. So ... Are they limited to only two Honorable Mentions?

Kupp was Stats national player of the week last week (this week as well), but wasn't even the conference offensive player of the week last week (he was given special teams)...some voters see different things I guess.

I think he's gone, its been said its a foregone conclusion...what else can he do in the FCS? Going to the FBS probably won't make a difference. He's probably somewhere between a 3rd to 5th rounder if he goes, at least he should be. I think he can play, and play well at the next level. Even the Eastern AD said enjoy the ride cause we have no idea about Kupp next year...

Too bad for you guys, but a really smart move for him. :thumb:

If you're going to get hurt -- pretty much a given, now and then :( -- you might as well be getting the big bucks for it.

Honestly, a running back getting those numbers is more impressive than a quarterback throwing six tds. Still would have liked to see him nominated.
