Ok hoop nuts stand by. Signees in the near future, awaiting paperwork that is being picked up, could well make this class one of the best in Griz men's history. No hints, just a messenger from the heart of the program. Stay tuned.
Mick

BTW: remember the only thing that over hyping recruits can accomplish is to get a coach in hot water a few years down the road. I specifically remember folk describing last years Griz class as one of the best in Big Sky history, with a JC all American, and Pac-10 level Aussie and a couple of nice guards. It turned out the best player was one of the less heralded guard.

That said though any class that starts off with Selvig and also features Qvale has a good start towards a great class.

Rundles had a lot of hype. Wasn't he a MN Mr. Basketball finalist and a rare Big Sky 3 star player? I thought he was the prize of the class when it was announced.

and he more than lived up to expectations. if graves comes through, it will still have been an excellent class--especially if vanderjagt improves.

but i thought chase was the next kamaar, and vandejagt might contribute immediately or at least by the playoffs--wrong on both counts. mslacat is right. i always say, kids are like curve balls--you just don't know how they're going to break.

Coach's evaluations are just so much more important with a two-year players than a high school recruit.
Everybody is looking for that diamond in the rough and a lot of times there are a variety of reasons why you can get a kid and somebody else didn't.
Eastern is the only school who would take a chance on Stuckey and there were plenty of high-profiles who were in on him before he was discovered to be a non-qualifier. While he didn't take the Eagles to the promise land, he should have and would have been a great fit here if we could have got him in school.
Remember too with one less scholarship than the women, it's almost impossible to give a tweaner a chance and that hurts especially the in-state kids like a Criswell or a Warhank who have to walk on and prove their worth.
The trip from Houston had more to do with academics than athletics to be sure the i's were dotted and the t's crossed. Let's hope they were but I would be surprised if they announce today. But then again?

The trip to Houston had more to do with scouting Kingwood Tourney. The Cats had two coaches in Houston last week end as did almost every D-1 school west of the Mississippi. Oh and by the way, the women's basketball team have TWO more scholarships than the men.

I think I have it.

DEVON MANNING

Devon Manning, a talented 6-2 junior guard from Pueblo Central in Colorado, gives us an update on the early stages of his recruitment. The Big Sky, WAC and MVC conferences are represented on Manning's list...

I stand meekly corrected on scholarships mslacat but I was referring to the side trip which conveniently coincided with Tuesday night's verbal commit.

Early indications are that Rundles may go down as an all time GRIZ great, what a get for the GRIZ! I just hope he is not a player that meets his potential early and remains at that level. Example: Strait is an all conference type player, but seems to have peeked early, and may not get much better.

As for Vanderjagt, I too was overly hyped with his signing. I wish he had got more PT this year, especially since our FG% defense struggled so bad this past year. We will never know, but I cannot help but believe defense would have been much better with him in there. Realistically, it is much too early to judge any player after 1 year. More realistic evaluation is 3rd year, redshirt or not. Example: Jordan Hasquet, just watching him practice, attitude, and desire, I started to believe in Hasquet 2nd half of 05/06 season. Yet, many were very skeptical of him. Thankfully for the GRIZ he proved the naysayers wrong. My point is, we need to be patient with any recruit coming in as a True Freshman. Give these players 2 years of being on campus before making a true evaluation of real expectations. I expect Vanderjagt WILL prove himself between end of 07/08 or beginning of 08/09. As for Graves, everything I have heard is good, on and off the court.

Now onto JC's. Mick is right. Evaluations and projections of JC players is much more difficult, mainly due to Grades, and less time available to them to learn a system. Not to knock any JC recruits, but I have my concerns with JC's coming to the GRIZ.

What is it with GRIZ jc recruits taking so long to contribute, get acclimated, learn, and be major contributors? I know JC recruits are often a roll of dice, yet there are many successful programs that do it well every year with JC's. Look at what Weber State did this year! Yet recent history indicates MT JC recruits do not contribute early, Why?

Virgil Matthews, Bryan Ellis, and Stu Mayes are all talented players that played huge rolls as SR's. Gus Chase did not contribute as expected, with limited PT he did show he could have. Guess we will never know (good luck Gus). Why could we not get contributions earlier from the other 3 JC's? Why can other programs have JC's step right in so quickly? I can understand a small percentage of JCS not contributing early. However, recent GRIZ history is that JC's take much too long to contribute. This has me completely baffled. Is it something the program is doing wrong? Hard for me to blame the coaches, I think the world of our coaches. LK was hardcore, Tinks laidback, yet same results with both regarding JCs.

If JC's come to the forefront for this recruiting class, I will pray their transition and learning curve is much quicker than the last few years. I am hoping for more of a Kamaar Davis adjustment period. Whoever these JCS are, I am optimistic that they contribute sooner, with less growing pains!

Whoever they are, Welcome to GRIZNJATION boys. :thumb:

Is this the longest thread ever about the Griz new signees where the actual names do not appear in the first three pages of the thread.

Some random Thoughts:

1) A watched thread never gives up it's signies.

2) When looking to get the inside recruiting info it looks like JJ the man! (sorry Mic I know low blow)

3) As all the girls have known since high school Mic is the biggest tease,....... and he never gives out!

4) When will Griznation get their own Mslagriz, so we don't have to wait two weeks to find out who the Griz signed last week.

Seriously though if a guy committed last Tuesday it should take two days max to get a LOI in his hands, signed, and announced. If it has taken more than 4 day's, one or more of the following has taken place.

A) The coaches are not done recruiting and do not want to release info until they are.
B) The signee has some "academic/transfer" problem or irregularity
C) U of M has gone back to the pony express as their document transfer method, just doing away with that whole electronic / digital transfer method.

Ouch. I'm hurt. If I was still in the biz, JJ couldn't hold my jock. Hey I'm too old to tease. I have to deliver when I have the chance. Don't you just love the speculation and conversation though.
Hoop in April. You gotta love it. You'll also like some of the pre-conference schedule. What's JJ got to say about that. I know he's reading this and hope he realizes it's all in good fun, isn't it?

Once a vox, always a vox!!! Come on Tinks, give it up.

ARGH I agree! I cannot take the anticipation any longer :beer2:

Mick, do us all a favor, make another screen name here, post the recruits and schedule as a rumor type post. Not like EGRIZ never sees rumors here. Then when these "RUMORS" are confirmed as facts, well you like a genius, and EGRIZZERS get the much anticipated news. Please Mick, do it for the team! :thumb: Would bribing you with more calls to Tinkle's radio show help? Come on, please please, yes I am begging!!!
