For starters, Brian never started as a Fr. He was also QB to one of the best passing offenses many have seen. Definitely not fair to compare.

Lets just call it how it is... you're wrong, and pessimistic.I’m trying to figure out what practice he was watching
if ah yat looked like an all American at this early of juncture in fall camp id be very concerned about our defense. I think we're looking from a different perspective. The things I saw gave me great optimism. Did he miss a pass or 2? Sure. But doesn't that freaking happen in football?? He also made some great passes. He's confident, taking control, and made some very good reads. Looks the part way more than last season. And in saying that, our defense is MILES ahead of what our D was last year. Haven't listened much at all to your pod so truly don't know if your overall disposition is pessimism, but mine is not. We're talking about college kids that have parents listen and pay attention to social media/ pods / egriz than most think. Those that know me in life know I'm optimistic, but I sure is shit am not going to talk in a way that is counterproductive about our students athletes, from a pure football standpoint. If a kid shitty attitude and has other issues, different story. BTW, today he looked very solid again.

One question for the lackeys. Are you leaning into the media thing? If you’re not sitting there with a ridiculously large boom mic and 80s over the shoulder camera with a blue war style bullet proof vest and helmet during these open practices, I’ll be extremely disappointed.

Sadly, no. We will continue to operate as two idiots who were lucky enough to be inside the belly of the beast for a year or two and now can spew our opinions. Now back to being a fanatic haha! Though it is flattering that they won’t let us in the QB club because of our pod but the “other guys” have that access and talk about it regularly 
Hence why we may be seen as the “opposition” pod, but it’s all rooted in love of Griz Nation. Appreciate anyone who gives us a listen and here’s to more Griz content from all 3 pods!What was your role "in the belly of the beast"?Now there’s an idea

So there's no room for criticism or skepticism of the program? This pod included plenty of positive takes. A lot of praise for many of the position groups.I could only listen as far the qb discussion. You mention we're the only team out msu, ndsu and sdsu that return a starting qb "if you can call it that". What else would you call it? KAY, to me, very obviously, won the starting job last year. He couldn't sustain it because he couldn't stay healthy. If you read the gogriz.com qb write up today, Pease eludes to it.
Today was my first practice that I've attended. To me, KAY is the leader and it doesn't appear close. Hes bulked up considerably from the eye test, hes poised, and made some great looking throws today. Jensen and flowers are definitely serviceable. To me, in comparison to last season, Jensen looks quite a lot better than fife at the same juncture, but KAY looks much more the part. My money is on KAY currently, with Jensen and flowers pushing ( and looking solid).
Other observations:
-Fonoti is a beast. Runs so hard, so strong, made some guys miss today, weve got a great one in him.
-its been well documented, but this defense looks to have a totally different composition about them compared to last season. The PSU kid has a MOTOR, as does almost every LB I watched.
-Im ready to claim our d line will be JUST FINE. Peck Is a beast with a motor, Detrick is the same way, Jake Mason is freak size / athleticism wise. Keim will be a problem, and some others. Im confident in this group.
- Morrison looked good on kicks. Every kick i saw was explosive off the foot, made everyone i saw. May not have seen all of his admittedly, but i didnt see amy of the issues he was reportedlyhaving with the grass. Looked great.
-WRs had an up n down day w some drops, but they look great. Brooks Davis may not start opening night, but my pick to perhaps even lead the squad by the end of the season. Explosive, aggressive route runner, and a motor.
-Lawler stood out to me at corner. Looks so much more natural at that position compared to the limited action he saw last season. Also looks stronger and more explosive.
One thing that also stood out to me is leadership and personalities. Defensively, there are some dawgs. Peck and Detrick are vocal leaders who seem to have the respect of the unit. Several of the LBs are the same. PSU kid and geno are all world leaders. Winner mentality. Offensively, Brown is taking that role, Brooks Davis has a lot of that, and I love Drew deck. Championship attitude. We missed that so much last year, it was palpable at practice.
Some kinks to work out and position groups and some new guys still trying to find their footing, but I was impressed with this teams attitude and spirit, especially considering all the new faces and bodies.
GO GRIZ
The staff, and bobby in particular, have done plenty to earn a fair amount of frustration from griz fans. Particularly with their management of the QB position, offense, and OL over the last 7 or so years.
Im not a particularly big fan of public criticism of the players solely for their play, no. I do not think its productive, and most on here who are critical of players generally speaking have zero clue of how much work and effort it that all goes into it. Yes, we are wmbarking on the era of NIL, but these players are not professional athletes and shouldnt be treated as such by fans. Coaches sift through the game film and the depth chart generally speaks for itself. Also, the players and families read this stuff way more than many people think, which for student athletes, I think is a bummer to read idiots online speak ill of their kid. If a kid has terrible attitude / effort problems or is a bad teammate, or is a bad person in the community etc. Criticize all you want.
Criticism of the coaching staff, sure. Our tax dollars pay their salary.
but I'm usually fairly defensive of coaches as well... grass isnt always greener. I dont share your criticism of how they've handled qbs. They recruit who they recruit and let them battle it out from there and the best man has generally always won the job. How about 2022 (I think) when they gave Bergen 16 total offensive touches the entire year?

It was not a mystery to me the way the qbs were handled last season. I've said it here multiple times, KAY won the job,and I think he played borderline exceptionally well for a freshman. He had a difficult tome sustaining success and building on his successes becaus of injury. Fife also got time, but that is typical when they're trying to get both reps. Fife was really never able to wrestle the job away from KAY, mainly for leadership reasons and he'd make very costly, silly mistakes in games. And then he threw a very public fit, and that was that.
Junior was a sophomore in 2022, I do recall also had Injury problems, and I can almost guarantee you he had more touches than what you just quoted. 2022 spiraled when sac state cheap shot Lucas Johnson and from there had a difficult time with injuries.

How did they poorly manage the QBs? Should they have force Ah Yat to go out and play hurt? People acted like they couldn't decide on a QB, and during the season the staff couldn't really come out and give away injury news for the starting QB. Since the season ended, everybody has been open about the fact that Ah Yat was the guy but injuries made it impossible for him to play as consistently as anyone wanted.
Bergen had more than 16 touches in 2022, lol. He practically had that many rushing attempts.
I think you are retroactively remembering Bergen but not the rest of that offense. Until LJ got hurt and couldn't play like he needed to, the offense was rolling. We had Mitch Roberts, Malik Flowers, and Grossman as senior leaders and the trio of Fontes, White, and Bergen behind them. The offense managed 47 points per game. We lost in the playoffs to finalist team NDSU, and giving Bergen more touches wasn't going to win that game or beat the Cats. Roberts was the steady hand, Malik was the burner, and Grossman might have been the best receiving tight end in the country. At the time, everyone was also pretty enamored with our RB room. We had Ostmo, Knight, Harris, and Childs. They didn't need to build the offense around Bergen or cut into other people's role just to try to get him touches. At that point, Malik Flowers was the explosive guy we were trying to get touches, and rightfully so.
I'm not at all talking out of both sides of my mouth. I didnt say you specifically. I quit listening to this most recent podcast A. Because I ran out of time and it wasn't important to me and B. You were discussing ah yat and made a comment about how he was a returning player "if you can even call it that" (or something to that effect). What else would you call it? He basically started every game he was healthy, or was healthy enough to get practice reps that were prior. So my listening of your pod may be admittedly short lived.
But there are many on this board that talk about players that way.
