SI Investigation of OK St - Trouble

So what's wrong with paying players? The NCAA and the Uni's make zillions off of these young men. The $$ needs to spread around. Come on man!

A couple of interesting items to note in the updated ESPN story....good chance this goes nowhere after a bit of posturing by NCAA.

Fields disputed the credibility of the players quoted in the story. Five of those players were dismissed from Oklahoma State for various reasons.
"Anyone that played at OSU or is from Stillwater knows those guys [quoted] are not credible," Fields told McMurphy. "If you thought guys were getting paid, why not prominent players instead of backups and third-string guys?"

Okung said he believes the players who spoke to SI did so "out of spite." Said Okung: "A lot of these players are spiteful. They had multiple drug issues. They did things that were detrimental to the program. They didn't all graduate. Gundy couldn't tolerate it and let them go."

On Tuesday, Holder also clarified an apology he made the day before.

"In Monday's news conference, I apologized to our fans and mentioned phone calls I had made to other Big 12 athletic directors prior to the release of the first article from Sports Illustrated," he said in a statement. "To clarify, my apology was in regards to the negative publicity that was coming our way. My apology was in no way an admission of wrongdoing by OSU athletics."

If found to be true, it will be interesting what the penalty is. Sounds an awful lot like what SMU did when they got the death penalty.

Probably nothing....

no chance this happened. any of it. this is nothing more than a witch hunt and i'm shocked so many are too quick to judge in this case. please let's just let all of the facts come out before we rush to conclusions. :protesst:

The only conclusion relative here is that your QB is injured, you are an asswipe, and that the Cats will lose ONCE AGAIN to the Griz in Bozoland this fall.

Really??

Apparently there is a second set of allegations against some SEC teams coming from Yahoo Sports. A rising shitstorm. I heard one guy on XM college football saying the NCAA enforcement division is understaffed and may not even delve into OSU because the alleged wrongdoing was more than four years old which is some kind of statute of limitations. Like other posters, I am "outraged and appalled " that the bastards spent 18 months investigating free hotdogs and a temporary loan to get a kid out of jail (where he should not have been in the first place). That UM had to do one damn thing in terms of penalty is crazy. By this scale the NCAA will be seeking the death penalty for sure, unless...there be...a different standard for FBS per chance?

It's my understanding that there is a 4-year "statute of limitations" UNLESS the same activity is continuing or continued into the past 4 years, in which case the old stuff can be investigated. Note, in the case of UM, the investigation went back about 10 years for the family inviting players over for Sunday dinners, because the activity continued until recently.

If you had ever visited Stillwater, you would understand why OSU had to provide so many benefits to get recruits.

I'm in Stillwater all the time, and its a great town. Very much a college town like Missoula, Corvallis, Eugene or Pullman. Not at all the burb in Norman....which is really an extension of OKC. And I'm not a fan of either school so no bias in regard to either school. Maybe you should get out a bit more.

As the Jackie Chiles on SNL would say, "litigious, contentious, scandalous!"
"Lewd, lecivious, outrageous!"
