Show some class

Should some fan choose to vent his frustrations with the team, let him. It doesn't make him any less of a fan than anyone of you.

The guy stood at the tunnel and booed his own team's seniors leaving the field after a heartbreaking loss. It's incomprehensible and it could easily be a lot of other things, including grounds for institutionalization, but at an absolute minimum it really does make him much, much less of a fan than anyone else in the entire world who wasn't standing there booing their own seniors.

Will people please quit using the "They're 18-22 so they are immune to criticism" excuse? These are adults out there not high school juniors.

Would I boo? No, I personally think boo-ing, whether at an opponent or your own team is tacky. However, I am not going to rip somebody else for doing it. Had this team won a national championship, they'd be the toast of the town and since they didn't they've got to deal with the consequences. It's the price you pay for having a fan base that is so devoted to your every move. The fact is this team was one of the most talented this school has even seen and yet they fell well way short of expectations and off-the-field were an embarrassment.

Should some fan choose to vent his frustrations with the team, let him. It doesn't make him any less of a fan than anyone of you.

Never said you couldn't criticize the players - constructive criticism, is good when done by the right people. A SOB hurling insults at a player after the game (with kids in tow) falls far short of constructive criticism.

Want to boo during the game at a call, bad play, or mistake? - fine go for it. Take out the frustration of a loss on the team leaving the field - not fine by my standards.

I know they are young legal adults but does that make it okay to be treated this way? btw. They players at the game are not the ones in trouble with the law. Those guys aren't on the team. So the ones playing Saturday were the good guys and I don't care what the fans expectations are, the talent or the potential - you don't insult them.

ReMax
It wasn't the missed field goal that kept me up at night, it was all the missed opportunities that would have put the game away.

Play calling sure but that won't change so best to let it go.

Talked to their players after the game as they were getting on the busses and these guys are a class act. Nothing but great words to say about us as they almost felt bad about us missing the field goal.

ReMax

I blame you for the loss because you did not have your tailgate. (just kidding).
Sad story about the so called adult booing, no place for that. I guess that means he waited for the combined prayer with most of both teams holding hands center-field thanking God for the chance to be there.
I guess that example of sportsmanship was lost on him!

That guy is lucky he didn't get pounded by a group of real fans. There is no place for that crap, booing seniors after a loss. Does the word 'sportmanship' mean anything. How about 'respect'. They teach those lessens in football, perhaps we should teach it to some fans.

ReMax, I don't know when I actually feel asleep, but the whole game kept playing over in my mind...the field goal, 1st and goal from the 3.....3 turnovers and not even any positive yards.

We should have won by 10. Not taking anything away from Wofford, they made plays - and were good sports....how bout that.

I think that we need a new board for all the Bobby/Phenicie haters, where they can vent their spleen, and complain that they are the only "real" fans.
Me, I appreciate that every year this team gives me a tremendous amount of entertainment. But I have nothing to do with what goes on on the field, or the sidelines. They are not "my team." They are the Grizzlies, and I am allowed to associate/support them in their team's quest for excellence.
Sure, if I owned the team, I would make some changes. But I am just a fan who enjoys watching a pretty darned good team.
And I will continue to watch/support them through good times and bad.

I was also there clapping as the players went in the tunnel and I didn't see or hear any booing. Lex got a big hand and many were yelling encouragement to an obviously distraught Carpenter.
Not that it didn't happen but I didn't hear or see it.

He wasn't right there at the tunnel, standing on the steps probably at about row 12 by then, I was still standing in the seats I had on row 10. He probably would've left earlier but there was a crush of people but most were looking back to the field and not just hustling out of there.

It's funny, my first thought was to get in this guys face or punch him in the face (knee-jerk reaction) but I'm not that kind of guy. And really there were 3 other people who said something to him as well, and they called him out for acting like a jackass. I think the collective group did the right thing.

Guys like that are the same kind that will tell you about, "back in '82 if the coach had put me in in the 4th qtr we would have state champs, no doubt."

That is about as good of an assessment as the rest. Re/Max, I have a hunch this jerks kids already know what an asshole they have for a daddy, because he probably bitches about everything his wife does while he sits on his fat ass with the remote in hand. You did the right thing, but I would have paid your bail if you had decked the AHole. :thumb:

Bronco, Bozgriz and myself were in row 12 above the tunnel. Anyone spewing that stuff would not have walked out on his own.

But you still haven't answered the question: Did you not having a tailgate effect the outcome of the game?

I think so

first and foremost these are students of the university, most come to get an education. football scholarships are a way to finance that experience. some use college football as a stepping stone to the next level, but that dosent give anyone the right to bash them in that manner.

on monday they will be back in the classroom preparing for finals in the coming weeks.

as a student at the UofM i am not ashamed to be a fan but ashamed of the way others are acting with disrespect toward our, i feel am entitled in saying, great football program.

i am very proud to be part of this experience and the fact that we won the BSC and went 11-1.
