He was forced to resign today. He will coach through the end of the year.

Is ther a chance that BH could get the head coaching position there? What about an assistaints position?

If BH did take another job, who would be on your short list of replacements you would like to see get the job? I think there are alot of guys out there that would really like the UM job, including FBS assistaints.

What about John L. Smith coaching the Griz? Word is he has been at a few USU games this year, and thier is speculation he would like the job again saying it was one of his favorite coaching stops. My thinking is if he would be interested in USU, why wouldn't he be interested in UM? He was an assistaint there at one time. From what I hear he has a boatload of money from his Michigan State contract. You guys would win the NC within two years if he was hired, IMHO.

Bobby's name is already showing up.

End this idiocy now please. Hauck will have zero (yes ZERO) shot at the UW opening. Why? Take my word on this - his association with Rick alone is well-known and remembered amongst the Tyees, and they are very aware of what has happened with the thuggery in MT. After a Times hit piece regarding this type of garbage it made it a simple impossibility, even if he didn't lose in the first round 3/5 times during his tenure.

I will interject my opinion here, even though for some reason (some) people on this board act like opinions are not what this board is all about.

Bob Hauck will have at least a shot at getting the Washington Job. For several reason. There are also several reasons that he may not get it. But IMHO he has at least a shot.

Also, to answer the question about the next HC at UM. I do not think that John L. Smith will be the guy. He is definately an excellent coach, but I think the next head coach at UM (Whenever that may happen) will be either Mike Van Diest of Carroll College or Brent Pease of Boise State. Either of them would be excellent choices, though I am leaning towards Pease because of this age and ties to administration.

Again, before the arrogant replies about living in "SOCAL" and about why do I think I know anything hits the board. This is just my opinion, last time I checked that what was fun about this message board. But things change.

I think Bobby will get a look-see at UW, but I'm not sure he will be a serious contender. It could depend on how long UDub wants to wait to hire a replacement for Willingham ... and (don't yell) how deep in the playoffs the Griz might go. Guess we'll all know the answer in a couple months.

If you were Mora would you rather have the NFL $$ or the job of cemetery sexton at UW trying to resurrect that sunken ship (a mixing of metaphors, I know).

If you were the guy at Missouri, would you rather play Texas and Oklahoma than the Pac 10?

Bobby may have a tie to Rick, but he was a "lowly" assistant who did his job, and went off to UM and established a pretty good resume except for the thug baggage. He's young, has the ex-UW assistants, and recruiting stuff. I think he'd be a contender.

What I do hope is this: If BH is high on the UW list, that he doesn't pull a Joe Glenn and pack it in before the regular season ends.

As for successors: Mike VD. Pease's hopes may not be as realistic as some may think.

Not trying to be sarcastic here, but why do you not think Pease will have a legit shot? Is it because Van Diest is that good of a candidate or is there another reason? Thanks.

That's like saying Cheney is a token assistant simply manning the VP post for ceremonial purposes. Hauck was his bagman in Colorado, immediately got into trouble the second he and Rick picked up a phone in Washington, and carried that idiocy over into Montana by selecting a group that is amassing more felonies than an Enron convention.

Please, he's known Rick for 20 years. He was well-known for being at point at all times and made many of the key plays regarding personnel, particularly on the trail. He's lucky to have the gig in MT and only has it because he happens to be from the state.

It won't be either. Bart Andrus will be #1 on ODays wish list.

For Griz in SOCal.. your question was... "... why do you not think Pease will have a legit shot? Is it because Van Diest is that good of a candidate or is there another reason?"

Has nothing to do w/Van Diest qualifications. I understand that Pease burned some bridges, and tho he was interested when BH was hired, wasn't seriously considered ... and wouldn't be in the future. Supposedly some of it was related to how he treated players.

For colsteveaustin...
In 1988 and 89, BH was an assistant at U of M.

This is a joke, right? Is this one of those "gotcha media" questions gone horribly awry?

For those with the bizarre inability to round off decades for the sake of conversation, Hauck was a grad. assistant with UCLA beginning in 1990. Rick was there in 1990 working as a receivers coach.

You're welcome, Monk.
