First off.... I am by NO means condoning rape. I feel that if you rape someone you should go to prison as well as be chemically castrated. And if alot of these allegations are true something serious needs to be done about the football team and students at the university. If some of the whispers around the program are true about a potential cover up on an alleged gang rape by members of the football program, then I don't think the death penalty (football death penalty) is to far out of line.
With that being said.... I'm having a hard time with the excessive amount of alleged rapes and sexual assaults that are coming out, not only at the University but in the community as well. The moment the media started to cover the universities sexual assualt problems, it seems that every time I open a newspaper there is another sexual assault. I am by no means calling these victims liars, but I think it's human to raise some concern that it may be possible that some individuals are taking advantage of the media scrutiny in order for some attention. Sometimes people are in tough places mentally and do dumb things for attention. I just can't recall this many allegations popping up in such a short period of time, and I don't think something different is in the water during 2011-2012. On the other hand.. it's possible the victims feel safer reporting the alleged assaults now that the entire country is watching how Missoula handles each report.
For every scum of the earth rapist out there... there is a crazy/unstable woman. There isn't to many things worse than rape IMO, but after hearing stories and seeing/knowing how mentally unstable and crazy some woman are and the things that they will do for attention I can't immediately assume these victims are always telling the truth. Thoughts? Comments?
