Sexual Assault Crisis on Campus - TIME

A new Time article stating Missoula and the U are not "the rape capital of the US" but rather an average college town. Pretty interesting read of which a portion is listed online:

I haven't read Time in several years. But I'll pick this issue up.

The intro to this article is what many of us have been saying all along. Odd the Missoulian didn't do some research and pick up on these statistics sooner. Go figure.

Anybody who read egriz knew this several years ago. Ha.

Plus, of all places to pick on the county attorneys office for not pursuing sexual assault. Are you kidding me. The Missoula county attorneys office is probably in the top 10% in the country in pursuing sexual assault matters. County attorney offices run by smart liberal democrats (with a feminist wives), with female criminal department heads, and having a majority of female assistant county attorneys, in liberal cities, don't fail to pursue sexual assault matters.

While every prosecutors office can improve sexual assault (and most everything else), and Missoula's surely has already, what a waste of federal resources and disservice to the city of Missoula and Missoula county attorneys office, the DOJ investigation has been. In my view, it's the DOJ being political and not doing other things that should be done.

We all saw it on Egriz first!

DOJ should be renamed DOP "Department of Prosecution." Since advancement and success within is measured by the number of successful prosecutions recorded, "Justice" is not necessarily at the top of their to do list. Hell, it may not even be under consideration.

I am an old fashioned POS and still need the printed page in front of me and that includes the Missoulian every morning. If you haven't read Time in some time, you ought to. It has made a grand attempt to be, for lack of a better word, hip. The format has changed, yet there is still in dept reporting on issues that affect us all. Yay for reading. Yay for the Griz, and #$%& the Bison, probably the Eags too.

See what happens when you over wine, watching the setting sun reflect on the Missions. You actually think you have something to say, no matter if it is off subject or not. I still say, however, $%&@ the Bison, and the Eags for that matter. Sexual assault on campus, refer to Time, I have my own issues.

Don't get me started on that one.

HOWEVER: As a researcher/writer of history, I can tell this has been the "normal" behavior for the DOJ for going on a century. It's not football, but ... In 1921-1922, because of political considerations, the DOJ forced a case to trial even though they had no case. In fact, the poor lower-level smuck who had to actually present the (non)case to a jury wrote to his superiors: "I am sure that if we attempt to try this case, which trial will result in a fiasco of a most shameful nature, unless we can gather some evidence that is worthwhile, the Department will be criticized as well as this office ... "
His recommendation that the indictment be dismissed was ignored, the case was a slam-dunk fiasco, and there was political fall-out. But only the political appointees suffered, so the average DOJ bureau-rats didn't give an ish-tay ... and "the beat goes one."
