Someone once said Offense buys tickets Defense wins championships.

While there is definitely a need for more quality linemen on the offense, let's not forget that the defense will have 8 of 11 starters gone, including all linebackers and 3 of 4 interior linemen. They also graduated a non-starting LB that played valuable minutes. Lot's of untested players to plug in. Not sure how that will all work out, especially if there is not balance in recruiting.

Yes, 3 of 4 "starters" are gone from the D-line (Crittenden, Wilson & Holmes). But we have Johnson, & Schye at DE and Kidder, Peevy, Bradley, and Davis at DT who all got lots of playing time this year. In addition, we add Jesse Sims (DE) & Donald Bedell (DE), to the mix, and Chadderon, Mertes & Tilleman for depth and Stitt has already talked about a couple "older" players to come in and play right away.

LB: With Strahm, Sirmon, Olson, Thomas and Fa'atuiese ALL back battling for the starting jobs and Cochran and Smith for depth and I still think this will be one of our most talented overall positions on the field.

Don't forget the Buss Gus!

I think Jimmy Banks is going to surprise plenty. That dude looks like a beast on his tapes and already gas the accolades from HS and JUCO to back it up

I like that Semore is reaching out to recruits in places we've never recruited before. Good stuff. Trying to get recruits that are being recruited by teams east of us in the other conference, well played..

hookedon, couldn't agree more. I think we'll see Strahm, Banks and Buss starting with heavy doses of Alex Thomas, Dante Olson and Sirmon backing them up. Olson was the scout team defensive player of the year.

Strahm has a chip, Buss looks like a future star, Sirmon has insane talent and upside, and the others you mention have tremendous potential too. Linebacker U will be strong again.

Hope Banks doesn't end up being a waste of space like his fellow UAB teammate that played for the Cants.
He's better, and I believe younger. Right now, LB and O-line looks about as good as it gets for the future. I would put those two positions in a couple years against any Mountain West team.

Okay, chuckles, to be fair, the Cats had a really good QB but he left. And It looks like you'll get more MT kids this year, so... :thumb: After signing day, grab a MW teams's O-line recruit stats and we'll compare. As far as linebackers, I'm just impressed by the group we've got on board. And I didn't say our team is better than Boisie St., just that I think we're recruiting MW type of talent at certain positions. Serious question for you: Of your out-of-state recruits, who are you actually beating out to get them?

If they dont get a letter sent to them by the Griz...they google Montana State...and decide well I guess its all I got!

Banks said in the Missoulian that he and Strahm played together in HS and are great friends. Sounds like they should "gel" easily.

I think almost everyone would agree that our biggest need is the offensive line. We have a great class already, never have had this much talent coming in on the line. Stitt could see, especially against NDSU and even SDSU that we had a big need here. Next biggest need is the defensive line, that's probably at our level the hardest position to get. Have a feeling we will see a couple or even three guys here. We are loaded at linebacker for the next few years. Lets relax and give Stitt time here. Turmoil never works on a football team, I think if we really knew what was going on behind the closed doors, Gregorak wasn't going to be a part of this team next year. Had lots more to do than our recruiting, Stitt is smart enough to realize that everyone must be on the same page. Not taking Stitt's side here, but he is the boss, has to make these hard decisions. Time will tell, change isn't a bad thing. I can remember when MSU hired Huse from us and many felt that he was the next great coach for the Griz BB program, many felt much better than Tinkle. See how that turned out, so much information we will never have on these decisions.

well said..

+1

I think Semore is going to be DC. And I am in support of that. Has done it (at Mines), was on staff at Oklahoma State so knows the game at highest level and his recruiting seems awesome. He knows Stitt's offensive system and is comfortable being the DC knowing the requirements of a defense considering a fast paced offense. My only reservation was if players like to play for him. I asked this and got no negative responses so assume he gets along with players.
