My Carolina bud watched the game too. Just as the final horn sounded, my cell phone lit up. “Fire that coach!” This was not on the players. This was on the coach. Anybody watching this game could see that. No strategy. No counter moves. With the game slipping away, nothing to stop their momentum, like a counter press to slow them down. DeCuire is a great guy, a builder of character. A great recruiter. But this showed the deficit in his coaching abilities.

Why let the opposition roll the ball to half court if you're just going to let the same guy pick it up with momentum (and no one on him!) and go lay it up in 4 or 5 seconds?
At least make them use 3 or 4 seconds in the back court.....and maybe sort of slow down the momentum. Pretty much same story last night.
Crazy as a fan to be kind of embarrassed watching the Griz to finish out wins.

Hardly ever do this, but I'm sick of all the nay-saying.. From all the bitching and complaining, you would think the Griz had lost. Well, they won. Love the moment and give these young men the credit that's due for beating a tough opponent. As for me ... I'm ready to watch the Griz win some more.
Yes you should have! I would be drinking your free bourbon instead of stadium beers. Lol

I was thinking the same thing. And Denker (sp?) did the same thing down the stretch last night. They all drove to the same spot for a layup or FTs because we refused to do anything different. So frustrating to watch!

I hear you and understand. I think a lot of the frustration is with the coaching. You know we've seen this too much! However, the guys played their hearts out and earned a W! Hope they get some good rest tonight!
Yet here we are 3rd championship game in the last 3 years.
For those of you bitching about Boise, tournament will be here until 2031!

Honestly today was a great win for the GRIZ. They knocked off the one seed. Yes, this team struggles to hold leads but psu is a bad matchup for us. They're the most athletic team in the league and they got rolling.
If the game had been close the entire way, we'd all be pleased as shit by a 3 point win. Yes it was frustrating, but guess what? All points count, no matter when they come in the game. Congrats to TDC, Coach Cobb and the staff for having them ready to play from the tip. And congrats to the guys for executing and kicking psu's ass for 30 minutes.

Have just started getting into Basketball a bit and I decided to come over to this part of the sports thread to see people upset with the Coach due to decisions and a lack of defense.....is this an institutional problem with all our $$ sports?!
If ANYone is upset by the GRIZ defense today, their basketball knowledge extends no further than "the ball is round, right?"
Shocking!! A crew containing Eric Curry has lost control of the other semi....

Ya, ya, ya. It was the players who got the big lead through the first almost 30 minutes, and then the coach who lost the lead. Travis had nothing to do with the big lead. Nada. But he almost gave it away later in the game. Great job coaching, Travis. Two games in a row.

Your Carolina buddy is clueless. He must have missed the first 3/4 of the game.
The last 7 minutes was an unending barrage of whistles and free throws, its hard to leverage what you have been doing so well for 33 minutes when the game becomes really 45 foot chunks. Montana showed in two + games against PSU it was a much better 90 foot team than PSU was and won those games and the one tonight on the strength of being being better in the flow of the game.
Montana did an excellent job for 35 minutes of denying PSU the key, and in that last five minutes you could see the shift in philosophy from key protection to foul avoidance. Easy baskets at the hoop. Allowed PSU to take the ball out of the hoop and toss it to the official and set their defense both in the full and half court. We didn't make them take jump shots.
That half court offense in the last five minutes is a lot of what we've seen over the past month. Dumb turnovers, not making good decisions, and money having to go 1v5. That is a Travis thing but it wasn't aided at all with the flow (or lack there of). Those guys managed for 35 minutes to avoid a lot of what has crippled this team this year, but they did slow down and tighten up. I do wish Travis could find a happy medium, and I do believe some of the problem is that he is and the team is willing to defer to Money late. I'm not sure we ever will see that end game change though and I wont hold my breath. Don't blame them for wanting to lean on Money but he and whole team has been great this tournament whe's he scoring as a part of the offense.
