Robin Selvig Gets his first commitment of the year:
Griz sign Sheridan's Stender

SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Sheridan standout Stephanie Stender has committed to play basketball for Montana.

"It's very rewarding," Stender said. "You're just honored to be inducted into that program."

The 5-foot-11 Lady Bronc said she is expected to play forward for the Lady Griz.

Stender said she was attracted to Montana's campus, outdoor opportunities and "it's not too close to home, but not too far away from home."

But the biggest draw may be the opportunity to play for Montana coach Robin Selvig, who has compiled more than 600 wins in 29 seasons at the Lady Griz helm.

"He's just an awesome coach," Stender said. "That whole coaching staff is awesome, and they're a big reason I decided to go there."

Stender enters her senior season as a three-year starter at Sheridan. She averaged 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals as a junior en route to All-State honors.

I haven't seen it in the paper (perhaps can't be announced yet), but he also has a transfer from Xavier of Ohio. She was a girl we recruited out of high school (Wyoming) and chose Xavier over UM or Georgetown. She disliked Xavier and is now at UM.

She will be eligible next year - sophomore then, I assume. She is about 6-2 and looks like a real solid and mobile player. Reminds me of Shannon Cate or McNulty or Liebenguth as far as build goes.

Plus, she actually has muscle definition in her arms. Don't know her name.

The frosh from Lewistown looks ready to play. Anybody have any other Lady Griz news?
