- a very good QB (drop down from Fresno St). He can sling it and run a little too.
- a pretty potent offense who can score quickly
- good tempo on offense. Ran 80 plays. Only ran 26 times and passed 54. Was surprised how much they threw
- a little turnover prone (they had 3 but still won)
- pretty sketchy on defense. Gave up 44 points and 500 yards to Nova
- allowed nova to run and pass pretty efficiently. Nova was very balanced with 283 passing and 213 rushing.

They’ll be a good battle. If we can slow down their offense a bit we should be fine. Need Wa-Griz to show up and get rocking. They had like 500 people at their game today. Our crowd and atmosphere could seriously have impact. Going to come down to our defense making plays.

Based on what I saw, I see a 10 point win and a pretty tight game going into the fourth quarter

They had more than 500 fans. The tv camera was on the home side so all you saw was the visitor side. There was probably 4K or so there. Not a good turnout but the place only holds 7 and a half I think

The fact that a college “stadium” has a “home side and a visitor’s side” tells me all I need to know.

True but half our conference is the same way

HALF?!?! We play in the bsc. More like 92%.

#bsc.

So SELA was down 31 - 14 at half and came back to win. Something we didn’t do last week. Same half time score wasn’t it?

Biggest key is if injured Grizzlies will be able to play, let alone play at a high level. Was told multiple starters would not have been able to go had the Griz had to play today.

:o

“Multiple” starters out seems to say they are unable to practice this week let alone be at game speed by Saturday and sela plays fast. Especially on offense. What I saw and have heard is corners are healthy, backers are good to go, safeties could see some “transition “ and the line is fine. We will need our best pass defense on Saturday so some rearranging at safety isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Hopefully these guys can get up for this game which I’m sure they can.
Key is to get to the qb and disrupt things a bit. A good crowd will help a bunch.
On offense I have no idea but my guess is Sneed is not at full tilt, Knight was hobbled a bit, Toure was rattled, and Mallory was banged up. Just a guess but none seem like game altering injuries and I still faith in Cam. Bottom line is whether or not these guys want to get after it and win this game. Excuse time is over. Do they want it and move on? I think so...

Go Griz!!

..might be a good time for Fouch and McGinnis to play..they are a heavy pass team..transition well this
would be the time..Robby is good with the run but he's slow in coverage..will see?

Their kicker has a hard time getting it to the goal line on kickoffs. Special teams should feast this week

Like any week, its ALL about the trenches. Both sides of the ball. On defense, get to the QB. On offense, provide time for our QB to find his open receiver, and open holes so our RBs can plant and get upfield. Griz will win if they win the battles in the trenches. Simple but not always easy.

LOL, thinking Robby wouldn't start and play the entire game.

SELA RB is very slippery. Have to wrap that guy up. He’s not really big but if he gets a little daylight he turns it into 25 yards real quick. He also appears to be a good pass catcher as well. Reminded me a bit of the FCS version of Kamara.

They don’t really have the mentality of feeding him but more so use him as a weapon.

Nice summary of the outcome, with one minor quibble. It's no surprise that SELA favored the pass so heavily … that’s their history.

Before the game, I put the following numbers review on the “mini scouting report” thread:
The NCAA statistical rankings offer some interesting comparisons between the two teams. The Lions have a mediocre running attack. The Wildcats can probably shut that down, other than the usual “keep them honest” plays. (We’ve seen SELA play, and they run those a lot.) But SELA has the third-best passing attack in FCS, despite the fact that teams know “that’s what they do.” Conversely, ‘Nova is not good at stopping an air game (#89 in Passing Yards allowed).

Oddly enough, SELA is ranked #13 in Run Defense. Unlike SELA, which has a largely “pass first” philosophy, Villanova depends upon their run game to set up the pass. And their passing attack is pretty good. But how good will their air game be if the Lions shut down the run?

Both teams have scored a lot of points (#9 and #10). The forecast for tomorrow at SELA looks like good football weather. Barring a lot of “dropsies” by the receivers, we’re expecting an aerial show. Lots of yards, but not necessarily lots of scoring … can’t get those tough red zone yards if the running game isn’t working.
The passing game comments held up pretty well. But the SELA rushing defense -- good enough for the Southland -- could not handle ‘Nova’s run game. So the Wildcat did establish the run (218 yard total), which allowed them to also put up a lot of passing yards.

On the other side, as expected, SELA had only a token run game (less than 100 yards). But that didn’t matter because they put up over 500 yards through the air.

The only real miss was my predicted lack of scoring, based on no “tough yards” running game(s). Still, in the end, the teams scored 12 touchdowns … and 8 of those were on pass plays (one a pick-six on defense).

Here’s a funny point: Wahlberg may have missed picking the winner (by a hair), but he nailed the actual difference, in the end:
- If it comes down to a kick Villanova could be in trouble, their kicker shows no consistency, he doesn’t just miss long kicks but short ones too… he’s even missed 4 PATs.

We are the only team in the Big Sky that gets HOMERED at HOME.

Cold, loud, and high. If someone could just start a forest fire nearby and get it good and smokey by next Saturday they won't stand a chance!

I was there for the Coastal game. Talent and execution (and help from the refs) will overcome all of those things.

Every team is banged up after 12 games; that's when depth takes over.

Speaking of which, I know the NCAA limits number of players from the visiting side, is it the same for the home team?
