Selvig. Wonder if Missoulian figured this out, or someone went to the Missoulian.

Credit where credit is due, Robin. Heap praise on a former BB player, but don't mention the source of your quotes? Probably front page news for the Missoulian. Read the article in another Montana paper, so just guessing on the front page thing. At least the Tribune writer will get lots of attention for his article, and might turn that into a job at some other paper before the Tribune goes under.

The straw that broke the camels back... never again, NEVER will i follow the click-bait that leads to anything Missoulian.

But seriously that is plagiarism and a former D1 coach should know better and credit the author, PERIOD. However, if Bobby Hauck would have screwed up like this it would have been plastered on the front page of that paper and not on page 9.

does anyone know if the author of the newspaper article in question called Robin for info or background on the original story about Leann?

I would assume your thought process is similar to mine, that is, the Tribune author got his original thoughts and many of the words directly from Coach Selvig. I'd like to see an article by the author appear in the Tribune by the author stating something to that effect basically to blacken the eye of another Lee Enterprises fake news fabrication

Start another newspaper war in Montana like in the old days. Those five or six Lee rags in this state are kind of embarrassing to this state.

exactly on both counts. Selvig isnt quoted in the GF article but I wonder if the reporter had used Robin as a source for his story. That would define irony. And yes, its time we had another instate newspaper donnybrook.

A lot of common sense there. I just didn’t like how the Missoulian titled all of their tweets and headlines to it. Took away from what mattered and that was the Big Sky graduation.

I agree that the Missoulian story took away from the Montes story. Hopefully, the people who heard it in person remember it.

I fault the Missoulian for the headline and characterization. Not sure that calling it plagiarizing was necessary. Yes, words from an article were used with credit, but that's not what I think of plagiarizing. I don't think Selvig was using another's words for his own benefit or credit.

For such a little thing, I sure wouldn't take a shot at someone like Selvig in this type of situation. It hurts the Missoulian. And it hurts the reporter, to the extent that anyone remembers her. Lucy Tomkins, according to the Tribune article. She was with the Kaimin. Graduated from UM in December. Seems to write fairly well. Got a big scholarship to study in Germany for a year. I lay this one off on the judgment of the Missoulian editors.

I have heard that is part of the problem. Editors not keeping keeping reporters totally in check. The way you disperse stories through social media needs to be crowd sourced, a/b tested, and approved before tweeted.

Non story that shouldn't have been reported and took away from graduation. But that Sentinel kid had the best speech of the day anyways.

The key word there is “former.” Selvig is a private citizen. He’s not running for anything, and he made no profit on the speech. So what if he took some text from a newspaper. Find a real story to write about.

I agree that Coach Selvig would have been better served by giving credit to Mr Murray for the passages used. Selvig has apologized and the apology has been accepted.
That, should be enough to end this, but it probably won't be.

The one question I have is what has any of this got to do with football?
