secrecy sucks

if i'm a businessman (which i am), demand is the mother's milk of my existence. without customers, i have no business.

if i'm in athletic administration, fans are what it's all about. without their dollars, there are no stadiums or arenas, and if i'm operating at the university of montana, likely no scholarships. having winning teams is the most important thing to draw fans, but there are other smaller things than fans appreciate, and which stimulate continuing interest in the program.

secrecy is not one of them. and not the incredible secrecy that now surrounds an activity that is of intense interest to the best of us fans--recruiting.

the basketball signing period started three weeks ago, and yet to my knowledge there has been not one word of information on the montana website or in the press about our signings. when the first and most reliable source of recruiting information comes not from your own school but from a fan of your most intense rival, something is wrong. if for some reason this information cannot be divulged, or there is cause to report it all at once, i feel this information in itself should be conveyed to the public--i.e., the fans, the ones that provide the bucks to keep the whole program going.

after weeks of leaks from insiders who have it on good authority from central command, followed by more weeks of total silence, i'm frankly getting to the point of rhett butler--"my dear griz team, i don't give a damn!"

I do not know the hold up, but I agree I would like to know who the new recruits are. I would also like to know if the 2 jc's we heard about are the ones Mick was so hyped about?????

I really can not tell you why all of the secrecy for the Griz, but I will tell you that it is a national trend. 20 or so years back by 5:00pm of the first day of the signing period you knew 90% of all of the D-1 signing through out the whole country.

This though is my guess. The two JC athletes who were posted on the board last week are gold. Done deals. What is holding up the process is the third guy. Something on the third guy is Gumming up the works, and the coaches feel it is an advantage to them, recruiting wise, for them not to officially announce. I would guess that this must be a pretty good recruit to make them hold out so long, BUT the longer this gets stretched out the least likely hood that the Griz will sign him. The longer the waiting period the more it is an advantage goes to a larger school.

Remember also you also are getting Tyler Hurley from Anaconda as a walk-on.
