Kemajic gave a good explanation of why opposing offenses are beating coverage: the defense is "cheating" to shut down the run ("cheating" is my word, his was "choice") and the safeties are therefore a step or two slow in getting back into coverage. I follow that. But why do things turn around defensively in the second half? I watched (well, I tried to watch) the PSU game, and they weren't beating the defense on pass plays in the second half. Was it a matter of more pressure (when you watch the highlights, the PSU quarterback was getting mauled)? Or does the scheme work for some other reason. Curious.
