Remax how good do you think the back field going to be this year ?
Should be interesting to see:
- Chase Reynolds will do his thing, the main guy inbetween the 20's. A known quantity, and as long as the OL continues to zone block well he should continue his success. While I haven't seen much of it, Chase has shown improvement in pass blocking, and he's catching really well still.
- TBF is tough to call. I agree with a recent report where I think Bobby and/or RP said TBF's having his best camp so far. He's not injured, or coming off an injury, hasn't been dinged up in camp to the point where he's in a red jersey, and has actually been catching the ball really well - which hasn't been his strong suit. TBF could take on the roll of the short-yardage / goal line guy. In his career he's not been the best at blocking, I haven't noticed him much in pass protection, couldn't say there. He's not going to be the light/quick guy we saw back in 2006, he's a power runner. The unknown is his ball carrying, last season fumbling was a bit of an issue.
- Brandon Utterback, this kid is all heart, and it's a bummer that he's not seen more time on the field. He's been a scout-team RB I think most of his career as a Griz. I thought last year at the start of the season he'd get a chance after a strong fall camp, but no such luck. Brandon was given a handful of carries with the 2s in the scrimmage - I think he'll see some opportunities this year, but could find himself behind a few guys.
- Kevin Klaboe, our main blocker, and the unsung hero behind many long run plays. Klaboe got dinged up late last year, and he's so important in regards to long snaps/special teams/blocking, I wonder if he'll see many carries. Kevin's a hard worker and a tough guy, also was a good option from time to time as a pass catcher.
- Tel Reynolds, looks a lot like his brother running the ball out there, needs to improve pass blocking, but that's expected with younger guys coming in. As mentioned earlier, I'd think the coaches would like to see him be able to continually out-run his defenders on those long runs, better conditioning with sprinting possibly?
- Beau Donaldson, honestly, I've not seen much from Beau, I don't really recall him much from the scrimmage either....
- Caleb (think it's Caleb) Gee, listed as a fullback, but a little small still. He's getting a lot of carries as an alternate FB or HB. Wonder if the coaches are waiting to see if he's going to grow much more, or fill out any more. He's had some good runs, but isn't shifty at all, just follows his blockers.
- Craig Baldus, I had a class with this guy last year, on campus. Looked pretty good out there with a few decent runs. As an RS frosh with a lot of guys in front of him Craig could develop through the scout team this year and into a decent player in years to come.
- Noah McWilliams, Haven't noticed much of him yet.
- Nick Lebsock, I'm wondering what the plans are with Nick, he blocked pretty well as a fullback in the scrimmage, but he was wearing #98 - so are they hoping he goes to DT? Wasn't he a lineman last year? Also how many friggin Lebsock kids are there? Haha. Looks like a strong blocker, and appeared to really enjoy smacking defenders around, could be a good successor to Klaboe.
- There's the wild-cards too:
- Moore, he's been watching the practices and he'll be out there in the fall camp. He looks like he's in good shape and still just a huge dude. I've only seen him play on highlight reels, so it's tough to say how he'll look against Big Sky defenses. He's got the size/strength, and the high-school skill. The question is, can he produce at this level, and can he just pick things back up after more than a year off without playing football? I think he can, but it'll be interesting to see, I know he was highly touted coming in here, and I recall Bobby mentioning that he could start as a frosh. He could add an interesting wrinkle to our run game.
- Nguyen, sure he's a little guy, and he doesn't fit the mold, Bobby even said that. However Bobby was so impressed with him despite his size/weight, that I've got to think he's going to come into fall camp gunning to be playing this coming year. Much like Moore all we've seen of him is highlight reels, we know little about his ability to block and catch.
