OK - back home after running a few errands after the scrimmage. Good intensity throughout, they had the rosters jumble up a bit and played 3 different periods. The maroon team won the first two and the silver team the 3rd. The 3rd period was longer than the other two and much more intense than the other two.
The first period had the maroon team with Dunn, Gregory, Weisner, Breunig, and Krslovic. That could be the starting 5 that DeCuire is thinking about, not sure. After what I saw today I'd say go with the first four but play Edmonds instead of Krslovic.
Impressions on players:
Mario Dunn - Looking more comfortable, good on defense, and a great distributor. Played his best when he was paired up with Edmonds. Maybe the highlight play for these two was Dunn pump-faking his defender and slashing in, whoever was guarding Edmonds leaves to help cover Dunn. Mario dishes the ball to Edmonds in the corner who drains the three and draws a foul, and hits the free throw for a 4 point play. Dunn had just a few turnovers. Don't think he took a lot of shots.
Jordan Gregory - The leader of this team. Jordan is a known quantity and was doing his thing. He distributes the ball well - had many nice assists and defends well. He's a challenge to defend because he would attack low under the basket and spin/fake and then shoot a fade-away shot. He got down on himself a bit at one point due to a sloppy turnover but not for long, had a few deep 3's as well.
Mike Weisner - Played very physically today, probably drew 3 or 4 fouls driving to the rim, unfortunately he didn't make any shots on those drives to try to set up possible 3-point plays. Hit a nice contested three but missed a few others. Seemed to be in a bit of a funk but was aggressive on defense. Had a few hard landings when leaving his feet. Was a sure thing shooting free throws.
Martin Breunig - Believe the hype people. The only knock I'd have from what I saw today was that he was on fire in the first game but then when he left Weisner's team and wound up being defended by Mike he wasn't as effective, especially in the low paint. The guy can jump out of the gym, in fact he did tip-offs, lost both vs Kemp and won vs Boehning. He attacks the rim with a good fluid motion, when being guarded by Kemp he was making it look pretty easy. He hit some mid-range shots and I'm trying to recall but I think he attempted a 3 that went in and out. He's also a good ball-handler in some cases he even brought the ball up the court.
Jermaine Edmonds Jr - Dunn's high school teammate and it was pretty clear those two had some good chemistry on the court. Edmonds was a little streaky on defense but when he was "on" he was great. A few good steals. I'd guess that either Edmonds or Breunig had the most points. Edmonds plays both inside and out - I was really impressed with him. Having not known much about him before today he was the big surprise for me. If it were me I'd say he should be the starter - but I'm just a super casual observer so maybe he was just having a great day. Starter or not if he plays this way he'll be a major part of this team.
Riley Bradshaw - had someone on twitter ask me if he even played today. He did, a lot in fact. He just didn't attempt many shots. Seems to me like Bradshaw is a very good and "safe" ball handler. Didn't make a lot of mistakes. Key focus was passing the ball around. If he had any attempts it was only a few - or either I just missed them.
Fabijan Krslovic - He really looked like he was still adapting. Started ok and has a nice up and under type of move that worked a few times. Faded out quickly and was rotating in a bunch as the day went on. I have a feeling they'll use him but he looks like he needs to get more comfortable with the team and system.
Daniel Nwosu - It's going to be real interesting to see how Nwosu is used this year. Saw a few plays where he might've made mistakes on offense but saved face by still making a shot. One play was a pick and roll, Gregory pulls the double team and passes to Nwosu who has a wide open lane to the rim. Instead Nwosu stops and shoots an 8 foot shot that he makes. I mean, it worked, so maybe that's too critical but he could've gone to the basket and drawn a foul on the shot too. On offense he took quite a few shots and made a handful, had 3 or 4 three point attempts but don't recall him making any. Defense was a little sketchy at times, he guarded Gregory early and would leave to double-team the post player too often, leaving Jordan open. Did buckle down and improve as the games went on.
Chris Kemp - He's our only real "big body" guy and what's nice is he doesn't get shoved around much - however he doesn't really have another guy his size to match up against. He had quite a few boards and just a few points. Breunig was a mis-match, he couldn't contain him. Kemp did better after that though.
Gavin DeJong - Tough to say but I think he rotated a bit and watched more than played. I don't recall seeing a bunch from him.
Jack Lopez - Lopez looks have improved on his athleticism. Maybe an unfair critique but I thought he looked a little slow-moving last year when he played. Didn't see that at all today. Took a few longer shots, plays underneath well on defense but did get called for a few fouls.
Brandon Gfeller - Drained a real nice three early, missed a few as the game went on. Kind of like Bradshaw, he was out there a ton but I just don't recall him taking a lot of shots. Was up and down the court a lot and around the ball but just didn't take a bunch of shots.
Bryden Boehning - I assume he'll be used since he's the only real center we have. Bryden didn't really play much in the 1st period, worked his way in a bit in the 2nd, and finally had some meaningful minutes in the 3rd. Did get blocked on a shot but grabbed it again and put the ball back in. Drew a few fouls but was kind of shaky shooting free throws, think he went 2-4 or 3-6 but one miss was an intentional miss.

Watching DeCuire a bit he is a little more quiet than what I'd seen from Wayne or Larry in times past, but this was a scrimmage, so who knows. DeCuire headed up the maroon team while Jono headed up the silver team.

I'm a super casual observer and I had my daughter there so my attention was split but I'd have to say that I think this team is going to be a lot like last years. Very athletic, good on defense, shaky in the paint. The team as a group today took a ton of 3 pointers and didn't make a lot. That's going to presumably be a key part of this season - good perimeter play. Based upon nothing more but what I saw this morning I'd say that it would seem that Dunn/Gregory/Weisner/Breunig will be the key group. Edmonds looks like he could be a real nice addition. What might be more interesting is how far down in the bench DeCuire will play. You've got one true center in Boehning and a good power guy in Kemp but I'm not sure if either will provide a bunch of points. Lopez, Krslovic, and Gfeller as rotating forwards. Bradshaw and Nwosu to help at guard. That's using a ton of guys.
It was fun to watch, I'm hoping to catch a few more.
