Scrimmage #1 wrap up

I'm not concerned with the QB position. Hill and Phillips are better than Gus at this point. They can actually move.

In fact, most of Hauck's offenses were on life support until close to November when they magically started to purr.
Good grief; check the records.

Kem, they won a lot, but it wasn't pretty on offensive in the first half of the season. Year after year after year fans were unhappy with Phen Phen's offense, but they usually got rolling late in the year. I didn't say they lost a lot under Hauck as you appear to be asserting.

One name I have not seen mentioned anywhere was Randy Rodriguez. Does anyone know if he played yesterday or is he hurt?

Backup DE, he'll be relied upon a lot this season I believe.

As always, THANK YOU BRINT!

My 2 cents worth is: Stitt's Offense has always been fairly easy to predict, everyone knows this. The defense knows what the Offense is going to do for the most part, makes it very hard for the offense to be effective. I can't judge how good or how bad the Offense will be against' our own defense. What I do believe is, when our offense scores against' our defense, it means they are probably going to be very special group and I expect bigger and better things from them in games to come. When they play that 1st real game this year against' Val. I will then be able to judge for myself what this team can or can't do. If we see more of the same we saw the last two years, then we all know what outcome will probably be. Now let's get behind these young men and give them all the support we can, just to do our part of being a good fan because in the end, that is all we can do.

Question:

The coaches clearly have Jensen over Hill and have all along. How come so many on this board put Hill in the good group and leave out Jensen?

Our offense is facing what I believe will be one of the better defenses in the league, so hard to read to much into that. I see the true freshman from OK, Moses had a good run. His speed, low center of gravity is going to be huge in the Big Sky in coming years.

Thanks for info. This is going to be a very good team, and surprise many.

I always wonder about this too. Some people say going up against the best makes you the best...but I have to wonder when it comes to o and d lines.

For example...the Dallas Cowboys D-line goes up against the best O-line in football and gets their asses handed to them every practice....I have to wonder if this kills or hurts momentum or continuity....constantly getting rocked.

My guess is that Jenson is in his 2nd year in the system. So, he may know more about it, but I feel Hill is still doing better and is a better athlete at this point.

I think you are forgetting about scout teams.

They want to win?

Exactly, which is why I was surprised to not see him listed on the stats sheet. He was always in the backfield at the spring scrimmage I watched a few months ago. Was hoping he wasn't hurt or not playing for some reason.

The coaches or people on the board?

This is a scrimmage! I can't believe they're dropping passes, blowing coverage's, missing blocks, pulling kicks, and missing tackles! Damn coaching staff is playing nonstarters to see how they've progressed. A scrimmage is not the place for that! Everything should be perfect at this time! Off with their heads, I say! Off with their heads!

Thanks BW!

First game action for the fall. I agree with an earlier post...we need to see improvement each scrimmage from the first team offense. Also, the offense isn't going to show everything in a "public" scrimmage. There are plenty of plays that will not be run and saved for the season. You also cannot forget that the defense sees this offense all the time. From being on a "no huddle, spread offense" in college, I can tell you that the defense picks up the signals and they cheat. When the offense can get 20+ points, to me is actually a good sign. I hope that the YPC goes up to closer to 4. The sacks count in rushing stats in college, so if you took those stats out, the YPC would be better. Maybe separate the QB YPC and RB YPC to get a better glimpse at how the o line did. Can't wait for Saturday. We will see how things progress then.

Ok so edit: did the math and RB had 29/100 for 3.45 YPC. QB were 13/10 so 0.77 YPC with sacks included.

i have noticed a theme in watching all of stitts inteviews, reading bw etc....and that theme is phillips is the guy, even if they say it is open competition ,,,,he is getting the reps, senior, sec player before huge crowds, gets the benefit form the coach of having a bad play (stitt says its on him, play will be thrown out" etc. etc....i do not have a dog in the fight, but i do know that hill can run when a play breaks down and has a big accurate arm (spring game).....is he going to get his chance with the ones ?......we do not want preconceived notions in this competition.... we want the best qb back there....as always thanks b/w and go griz.....

I think the griz Offense is further ahead than normal for this time of year. Usually, because the defense is simpler and they often know what is coming, they usually outplay the offense by quite a bit in the first scrimmage. I think the offense will be fine and will be outrageous by years end. People are harping on the offense but they had 428 yards against a very solid and deep defense. There were a few ticky-tacky sacks but on all of them, the QB was scrambling in what have been significant gains if the Refs hadn't called it so tight.

For petes sake though, the drops, THE DROPS! The QB and the WR seem to be on the same page better than last year but the WR's keep dropping passes. The QB's obviously have faith in Lamarriel Taylor but he had a drop or two. Other guys had drops too. I think to the tune of 5 or 6 drops. Seemed like it anyway. Man, these guys need to be taking 50+ reps on the jugs after practice. The drops have got to be cleaned up.

From what I saw the standout RB that I liked was Terren Moses. He was slashing and dashing through the line and looked like he was made for our offense. We will see how he does picking up blitzes.

As far as Reese P goes. Not excited about another pick 6, he also seems to try to throw into coverage a lot and into some pretty small windows but I like the confidence. I would rather have a Bret Favre fearless gunslinger type who isn't afraid to stretch the field and test his wideouts than someone who is only willing to throw short passes to one or two people. Reese had some great drives and great reads. If he progresses and gets better, and our WR's don't drop balls, sky is the limit.

Everyone seems to want Reese and the offense to dominate and be in midseason form right now. Way too early to expect that plus if they did dominate then we would all be bitching and moaning about Semore and the defense.

Personally I think we are more than fine. My biggest concern was the O-line and they played great, especially considering our QB's ability to scramble and move in the pocket. We will be fine there. Corners played great, RB's are hungry, Safety play is great and intimidating to WR's. LB play was exceptional and Vika F is going to be an all American before he is done here he is a stud and young. He is making a strong case for starting over Strahm. Defensive line, we are going to be hard to run against which will open things up for our LB's and Secondary. I anticipate lots of 3rd and longs for opposing offenses as well as plenty of turnovers for our secondary. Overall I think we are a well balanced team.

Top to bottom, as a group, how do you think the RB's compare to last year's group? I'm guessing we have more weapons this year.
