Scrimmage #1 thoughts

Hey Brint, what was your impression of the linebackers yesterday? It sounds like the secondary and DL were playing lights out, not much chatter about the guys in between.

AJ notes an interesting two deep: I know it's early.

With the Grizzlies hitting the field for the first time in scrimmage form, Montana gives us a hint at what the team's starting lineup would look like if the season began tomorrow.

Luckily there's still 2 1/2 weeks until game day, that coming on Sept. 3 against the visiting Saint Francis Red Flash. Many position battles are undecided at the moment, but here's what the Griz two-deep depth chart looks like at this moment.

Consider that some players who will certainly crack this chart -- assumed starting center Ben Weyer is probably the most noteworthy of the group -- did not play in Monday's first fall scrimmage and therefore are not included here.

We'll have another look at the evolving two-deep when the Griz hold their second fall scrimmage this Saturday, Aug. 20 at 9 a.m. at Washington-Grizzly Stadium.

Particularly on the O-line... This Beaver kid, put some weight on him, add in Scott & Jackson and you've got potentially all-BSC tackles for years to come.

So Justin Strong, out of Oregon State, isn't one of the four best safeties on the team? Interesting....

Ha I sense the sarcasm. He is for sure. You'll notice this two deep didn't include Caleb Lyons as well. It's off...a lot. Strong will be starting in no time.

Going to help both of you out here.

Oh, didn't realize he didn't play.

Kidder - Most dominant UM DE ever?
Kicking - Night/day from spring.
LB's - young, deep, and athletic.
JLM - stud.
O-line - Struggled.

For having 40 new players this a good looking team. Athletes all over the place. I'm excited.

Let's try not to anoint him just yet....

He is dominate.

Obviously, statistically he won't be tops, but he is NFL bound for sure.

I dunno... he could break some records this season. I've not seen a guy play with his motor or intensity... not even Kroy, Tyrone, or Wags.

Wasn't likely the O-line was just going to "get appreciably better" by simply bulking up over the winter and spring months. More than any other part of the team, they need reps together so they can gel. Not going to be a successful season without them being good, regardless of the talent elsewhere.

Stitt doesn't seem too concerned about the O or D, but the special teams thing - according to the BSC preview blurb has him concerned. He's right until he's not.

Best motor/intensity of that group is saying a lot. I hope you are correct

Jed Nagler? Is he in the area, still injured, a no show??

Had a catch for 15 yards. He got reps with the 2nd string guys yesterday.

Thanks much for the update and the report. I can't believe that he would be in top shape after the long layoff and no track competition?

Surprised to see calhoun listed as third string RB. I realize it is just a early fall depth chart, but I really liked what I saw from him last year. I hope the O-line improves a ton when all the starters are in place.
