Scrimmage #1 recap

Hopefully there is some thought given to cleaning up the scheduling of spring ball. Two or three practices, ten days off, a few more days on the field & a scrimmage doesn't make sense. Stitt may think he can get the offense "installed" in two or three practices, but lots of reps together & coaching sprinkled in, particularly for groups like the o-line & o-skill spots are critical to building continuity. Not Stitt s fault, but it isn't helping him build confidence with a bunch that doesn't have a lot of experience.

Thanks for the recaps. And just ignore Ursa. You'll note he's posting a lot after midnight. We all know he's busy with peaches & potatoes during daylight and his Russian bride by night. All day, all night Ursula, what the hell do you think he is, superman? I'd better get out there and check those peach trees.

Keep in mind they're in meetings and doing ohter things in the days they're not practicing. Maybe don't go a week before spring break, but if you start a week after the break then you go up till April 28. The staff puts a high priority on academics and if you start a week later it reduces the time players have to focus on finals, which begin May 8.

I believe that Jensen has JJ speed if it comes to tucking the ball and running, I am happy with that. Also it looks like he has the attitude to want to take someone on.... 6'2" 215 and acts like it.

Reclaiming the lost third of offense.

Jensen was a very physical defensive player/tackler in HS, that is one the biggest things I was happy about with signing him at QB. He will pick up tough yards for the Griz...and move the chains.

I think I read somewhere that he had avery gritty performance in the playoffs. His highschool was a relatively new highschool and therefor the football team was new and had no tradition etc. In the playoffs his team went up against a perennial power. His team was down pretty big when he sprained his ankle. He brought them back and they won. I can't remember where I read this but I think it's true.

This is how lore happens. The Lore of Jensen.

I heard, while he was injured in that playoff game, he saved children from a burning fire at halftime and THEN gave up his Gatorade to the thirsty children.

Damn!

Front flip, not back. Impressive. Not sure it was the worth the risk injury in a scrimmage.

Yes, it was clearly a front flip (wouldn't even make sense to do a back flip as he was running forward).

He avoided pretty much all contact from defenders, so it worked out for him.

Definitely not a preferred method of forward progress, but what I take from it is something we already knew, I think: JLM is a competitor. He does not like to go down, or out of bounds, or take a short gain when a little improvisation (and his extremely quick feet) can often lead to something much bigger and more memorable. Personally, I want players like this on the team. Never say die.

Agreed, and it also showed that he is very athletic. It approached Olympic gymnastic quality. Ha.

Coach Stitt said that he'd like to talk to JLM about that kind of stuff, but then smiled ear to ear and said you can't bridle (restrain) JLM, that you've just got to take the harness off and let him go... let Jerry be Jerry.
