Scrimmage #1 recap

It's just a guess, but maybe the lack of running game was to get the QBs more throws to better assess their ability and build their confidence throwing the ball.

Number of running plays I would say yes....but lack of sucess when they did run is a red flag. Also hard to assess a QB if the defense isn't forced to "respect" the run and can sell out for pass (maybe why so many linebackers were in the backfield)

Total sarcasm about Mr. Rainey!

Not so much about Mr. Titleist.

I heart you.

You complete me, Mr. T!

I thought when the offense looked good the defense was a disaster and when the defense played well the offense showed nothing. We couldn't run the ball which means our OL is terrible, or our DL is great. At times the QB's looked like it was their first time all year facing a live defence.

On a larger note, the ST is terrible, Coach Stitt's offence will not work at the FCS level and we should can him, blow it up and somehow talk Coach Hauck into returning, we desperately need a drop down DB or 2, and at least one should be as good as Tru Johnson. We have no DOLA (whatever the hell that means). Engstrom is a weenie. Coach Delaney was a doddering old fool who shouldn't be allowed the keys to his own car, let alone the CADILLAC that is/was the Griz program. We haven't been relevant since 2009 (despite playing in the National semi-final in 2011).
Nice work men!!!
And we did have a few drops in the first scrimmage of the year. ;)

Clearly, someone's been watching their dog run away most of the last week.

Nice work men!!!

So what I really took away from the posts thus far is - our O line continues to need reps and they do not look like a vastly improved unit? I will reserve my comments on the QB's, D Line, Secondary, receivers, ST, etc. Truly the O line concerns me. There will be better size over the next two years, but can they move and are they disciplined on their assignments? I don't think you can get much better of a O line coach and hopefully they improve over the spring and summer.

I tip my hat to anyone who knows what the upcoming season will entail after one scrimmage. There sure seems to be a lot of brilliant Carnac muthafuckers on this board.

How many more years are we going criticize our OL yet claim our OL coach is great?

Given CG's pedigree - I say as long as it takes to get the right kids. Probably one more year from the sounds of it, but maybe this year. You can bitch about Stitt and play calling, but the o line coaching is not the problem.

The upcoming season will entail a struggle somewhere between 0-11 and 11-0. Stick that in your hat, Carnac.

Up to one more year, but some will continue to complain about the o-line even if it's good. That's what they do.

I believe that Jensen has JJ speed if it comes to tucking the ball and running, I am happy with that. Also it looks like he has the attitude to want to take someone on.... 6'2" 215 and acts like it.

Reclaiming the lost third of offense.

Jensen was a very physical defensive player/tackler in HS, that is one the biggest things I was happy about with signing him at QB. He will pick up tough yards for the Griz...and move the chains.

Front flip, not back. Impressive. Not sure it was the worth the risk injury in a scrimmage.

Yes, it was clearly a front flip (wouldn't even make sense to do a back flip as he was running forward).

He avoided pretty much all contact from defenders, so it worked out for him.

Thats why he acts like a LB playing QB, can't wait.

I think I read somewhere that he had avery gritty performance in the playoffs. His highschool was a relatively new highschool and therefor the football team was new and had no tradition etc. In the playoffs his team went up against a perennial power. His team was down pretty big when he sprained his ankle. He brought them back and they won. I can't remember where I read this but I think it's true.

Definitely not a preferred method of forward progress, but what I take from it is something we already knew, I think: JLM is a competitor. He does not like to go down, or out of bounds, or take a short gain when a little improvisation (and his extremely quick feet) can often lead to something much bigger and more memorable. Personally, I want players like this on the team. Never say die.

Agreed, and it also showed that he is very athletic. It approached Olympic gymnastic quality. Ha.

Starting to wonder if it is part of the problem

This is how lore happens. The Lore of Jensen.

I heard, while he was injured in that playoff game, he saved children from a burning fire at halftime and THEN gave up his Gatorade to the thirsty children.

Damn!

Don't forget the homeless kitten and puppy he rescued from under the stands at halftime.
