Watched the game stream and came away feeling pretty good about Montana's potential. One senior; a young team that will get better game by game. The game took a bizarre turn halfway through the second quarter. Montana blew to a quick 13-point lead on great inside-outside ball movement... then suddenly just simply missed their final 7-9 shots of the quarter. All good shots that just didn't drop. USU clawed back & it was see-saw from there. Petrino lamented poor defensive prep and intensity post-game. Blamed himself. But I saw some real promising signs. Carmen Gfeller played with confidence and aggressiveness & will make a great front court partner with Anderson, who shot very well also. Transfer Hannah Thurmon played a quiet game, but her 2-7 shooting is deceptive: all her misses were good shots. Hannah's a very good baseline wing shooter. More important: All 12 players saw the court and 9 played double-digit minutes... and scored. 27 points by bench players. I think as many as five newcomers have the potential to have a huge impact on this team very soon: Willa Albrecht (great shooting range), Bria Dixon (very assured shooter with great balance), Nyah Morris-Nelson (good ball-handler & has great floor vision) and Kyndall Keller (very assured interior player). The most glaring stat of concern was rebounding, where the Utes had a 9-board advantage. It could be an issue for this team.
