Scheduling question

Just out of curiosity would there be any interest for Griz fans to see the Griz play Utah State in basketball? Stew Morril, by all I hear, has complete control of the USU basketball program (and why shouldn't he?), including scheduling.

He says he will only schedule 1 for 1 deals. Would the Griz play in Logan if the Aggies played in Missoula? Anyone know?

that's a game i'd like to see. USU puts a quality team on the court and with the Stew having coached at UM i think the UM fans would show up to see it in good numbers.

I am sure Griz fans would love to see a game between Utah State and Griz. Considering the travel distance, should be a good game to schedule where fans for both schools could watch them play at both places and travel costs relatively low compared to most other games.

I would think both Morrill and Kennedy would be in favor of this.

Thanks for the kind replies. It seems like a natural winner for both schools. The whole time I was at USU I could not understand why we did not schedule the Griz. It would be much better than all the UC-Where-is-it and Cal State-Neverheard-of-it games, we have in the BWC.

Both schools are fairly close, and have good teams. Stew Morril having coached the Grizzlies also adds an interesting angle.

There's also a possibility of USU moving into the Big Sky in a few years. Both USU and Idaho are in questionable status of being able to meet the new Division I-A football regulations (mostly the attendance requirement) and if they don't they'll probably move into the Big Sky. The conference is holding off on adding new teams right now (NDSU, SDSU and N. Colorado all want to join) until they find out what will happen with Idaho and USU which would be a better geographic fit for our conference.

I really don't think USU will be moving to the Big Sky anytime soon. Not that I would be opposed to it. The Big Sky would be a hell of alot better than the Sun Belt, IMHO. USU has recieved a WAC invite and by all accounts recruiting has really taken off this year. MD is recruiting like his job is on the line, because it is.

If I have the information correctly, you need to average 15000 fans over a certain (5 years, I think) period. I also beleive we only missed that by about 100 this year, with no BYU or Utah at home and a Sun Belt schedule that no one in Logan can identify with, much less care about Sun Belt teams.

If the USU admin even makes a half-hearted attempt they will make this attendance average, they already have most years.
