Schedule Frontier Conference Schools-Pre Season

Most years, our AD seems to have difficulty finding credible teams for the Griz to play in the pre season. Why not schedule a couple of the Frontier Conference schools every year? The games would be fun to watch and some years those teams won’t be easy outs.

A win vs a frontier conference team doesn’t qualify for playoff qualification. I can only imagine if we lost. There’s really no upside to playing non D1 schools.

Fun to watch for whom? What years?

Here's another analogy. Any gun expertise???
Load a revolver with ONE round, spin the chamber, stick the barrel in your mouth, and pull the trigger.
It's known as Russian Roulette. Five out of six chance of nothing(a positive outcome)happening.
What if #6 happened?

Most years? This like the only year where it’s been really bad. Last year we played 2 MVFC teams and a Southland team. Next year we play 2 MVFC teams, a SOCON team for the first time in god knows how long, and a PFL team. We have 7 home games next year. This is the only bad year in recent memory!

Your point is good. I didn’t think about the playoff considerations.

I remember the years when UM-Western, coached by the venerable Tom Lee , arranged money games with 1AA Idaho State, Southern Utah, and D2 Central Washington. The Dawgs were beat mostly by depth, but hung in ok for the first half. Great experience for the team. During that time, Carroll College was winning NAIA national championships year after year with Coach Van Diest at the helm. It made one wonder how close they could have made a game with the Griz or Cats? Those years ( in my memory) from 1999-2005 were strong years for Frontier football, and fun to watch. Yeah, I know that some of you FCS elites snicker over lower divisions, but they gave many athletes a chance to play and turn out to be successful student-athletes and future coaches. But, yeah…..in today’s race for post season standings, there’s no upside. BTW, regarding Ferris State, two years in a row D2 national champs ? Respect your opponent!

That is whole different kind of 'fun'.

Spanky won't travel to Missoula for a game, but would love to see the Griz in Billings.

I hadn’t thought of that, Kem, but I’m not a young guy like you so travel is an issue.

Many of you ridicule the possibility of playing Frontier Conference teams, yet get excited about playing other cupcake teams in the pre season. Other than the issue of playing non Div 1 teams because of qualifying for the playoffs, I don’t see the problem. Possibly play one each year on a rotating basis. After all, even before Kem played for the Griz, we scheduled some of the teams.

You note the problem and then say you don't see the problem. Also, not sure about your "excited about playing other cupcakes" comment. It is like you make crap up to match your narrative.

I didn’t make anything up. It’s true and you know it. Stick to your one line critical posts as you have difficulty expressing yourself otherwise.
