Scary Hockey injury Sunday night

Ugly injury, reminiscent of a similar injury to a goalie a few years ago, right in front of the goal...

Amazing more stuff like that doesn't happen with those sharp skates...

I can't for the life of me figure out why the US Congress hasn't dropped the steroids investigation and called a special session to help the NHL come up with safer skates.

This is the real problem in professional sports and is unsafe for anyone playing the game.

Its actually the second major injury to happen with the skates this week. A referee had to get a dozen stitches when he got cut in the face.

Why would congress worry about safety until everyone who uses steroids is in jail? Exposing cheaters is far more important than safety.

I think that congress has a lot more on their plate they should be dedicating their time to. Is steroids in sports really more important than securing our borders? Is it more important than Social Security?

IMO they shouldn't even be involved in the steroid thing and if you didn't notice I was being really sarcastic when I made my post about safer skates.

I was too. Safety for the country is more important than steroids in sports, I agree. But I guess their thinking is sports keeps everyones minds off of the important issues so if they fix sports then nobody will pay attention to the everything else they've messed up.

On the news last night, they said that the guy's artery was connected by less than a millimeter. If that had completely cut, it would have retracted on both sides, and it would have been "nearly impossible" to save him. Wow. Talk about lucky.

I think Congress should immediately create a subcommittee, with full subpoena power, and start scheduling lobbying meetings to the Hill for all involved. Full picture taking and glad handing invoked.

I think it is important that the NHL begin using full shark suits as uniforms. Tastefully painted in the teams colors, of course.

Seriously, I am also surprised that this doesn't happen more often, the way they fly around, and how sharp those skates are.

Its a nasty injury but really a fluke injury in that NHL-wise it has happened only to Zednick and to Clint Malarchuck who was the Buffalo goalie in the late 80's when it happened to him. You are more prone to tearing your knee or getting cut from a puck more than getting cut by the skates.
