Savannah State Redux

Since the first thread got trashed I thought I'd start a new one. The Savannah State game is looking more doubtful than ever. The Governor of Georgia just announced a mandatory evacuation of the Georgia Coast and specifically Savannah. Not looking good for the game -- or the residents of the SE U.S.

They'll make it to Missoula. If they are still playing App St. this weekend, don't see how they miss Montana.

They can go from App St to Missoula, if they need to evacuate, and we can take care of them. Free shots for them at Red's on Thursday night.

Now we're talking. :thumb:

We can bring in the former SFA qb to lead Savannah St around downtown Missoula. I have room for at least 4 players at my house. I suppose if they are evacuating they may have to bring the cheer squad and band too.

 that's funny stuff. I guess the Griz will be wearing Purina dog chow underwear this Saturday.

Looks like the storm is moving away from Savannah, GA. Rain the rest of today, but tomorrow way better. Could have a storm surge, but feel better that the game will be good to go.

While it's not "business as usual," it sure looks like Savannah State has every intention to play some football this week: https://ung.edu/news/articles/2017/...-football-program-as-irma-strikes-georgia.php

The UNG campus is about 40 miles north and slightly east of Altlanta.

J.K. Devine said:
... Football players, coaches, trainers, two public safety officers, and two bus drivers from Savannah State arrived on UNG’s Dahlonega Campus a day after their Sept. 9 game against Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. More than 100 team members stayed on the Dahlonega Campus at least through Tuesday, Sept. 12, as Irma, classified as a Tropical Storm on Monday, swept across Florida and Georgia.
...
Card Services supplied the team coded cards to access the residence halls, the individual rooms and the dining hall.

While the team remains on campus, UNG and its food services will provide meals in the dining hall. The UNG Athletic Department is scheduling time for football players to use the weight room in Memorial Hall. The team also will be able to use the laundry facilities to wash its uniforms and clothes.

The latter part of the quote suggests that they expect to stay more than just a day or two.

A bit more info from a Gainesville newspaper:
Nick Watson said:
...
UNG’s Director of Residence Life Treva Smith said the University System of Georgia held a conference call for all housing directors seeking available housing.
...
“We also worked with UNG athletics to make sure that there were spaces available for the team to train as well as to watch video, because they actually have a game on Saturday with the University of Montana,” Smith said.

Savannah State University is closed through Wednesday, according to the school’s website.

“If there’s more destruction in Savannah than we’re anticipating, they could actually change their charter flight if they needed to and fly out from somewhere in North Georgia out to Montana,” Smith said.
Boy, Sav State sure wants that check from Montana. :)

I think what they want most is the "big time" FCS experience ;)

I don't know how focused they'll be with everything happening at home but you cannot question their tenacity.
