Saturday Stats For Griz Recruit Gus Chase:

TOUCHDOWN

Well-known member
Gus led the Generals with 20 points and had 8 rebounds in SC Generals victory over Eastern Wyoming on Saturday night here in Sheridan.

i just don't see gus breaking into the starting lineup next year. i see strait at five, with van vliet and the australian kid, vanderjagt, off the bench; hasquet at four with sharp pushing him; and dhlouy at three with chavez vying for playing time. when kamaar arrived, we were desperate for a wide-body up front; that's no longer the case.

i'm stunned at how good the griz are this year, because i felt we were one year away from being real good, and two years from being outasight. maybe this kid is barkley-esque, but my question is: can you even make the bus, gus?

City,

This guy is the real deal, believe it. You need to remember one thing my man, it doesn't matter who starts a game, it is who finishes. I take it you haven't seen the Griz play yet. You are in for a treat. The Big Sky is so much better this year, I think a team could win it with as many as 4 losses in conference.

I think Gus can make the Griz bus or anyone else's bus. You are in for a surprise when you see him play. I have seen him hold his own when he was up against guys 6'7 on up to 7'. He his just a good basketball player no doubt about it.

The guy has been rated Top 20 JC guys in the country by several "experts". City you should be excited. :thumb:

city-Based on some comments Krysko made after Vanderjagt was announced, I believe he will redshirt next year. Chase has top 15 JC player credentials, I think he will get major minutes next year. I do think you are right about Chavez playing more at the 3. I also wonder if a redshirt may still be a possibility for Van Vliet. He has not been dressed for several games (including the cat game, I think-it was hard to tell on TV). Could it be a medical redshirt is a possibility? Swift also hasn't played for a while. I have a hunch Krysko might be regretting the decision not to redshirt him.

Is anybody forgeting Seyfert? He is likely to get a medical redshirt or a redshirt if he hasn't already. Just last year he was the only player to start every game, and would have started at center this year if not for tearing his acl weeks before the season started. Imagine that next year with Strait, Seyfert, Chase, Chavez, Hasquet and Sharp and thats just in the post. Think of that depth.

I am not sure he has that option available.

Earlier this season, Krysko was talking in terms of Jon rehabing quickly enough to actively pursue a pro career this spring. It does not sound like he has an eligibility left. He sat out one year after transferring from St. Louis to the GRIZ. The GRIZ have also committed 4 scholarships to incoming players next year. They have 4 to offer with Jon's departure. I seem to recall something from either Mick Holein or Krysko that indicated Jon's rehab may be going well enough for him to return to play for the GRIZ before this season is over. I would love to see Jon introduced in the staring lineup at Dahlberg one more time. I'm sure the crowd reception would be tremendous! :thumb:

Seyfert is done. He has used all his eligibility and his red-shirt. He is not eligible for a medical red-shirt.

I've seen Seyfert at lots of games this season. He's always sitting near the griz bench and he looks interested in the action. He walks around and stuff so he must be fine. He might suit up for the next game.

Mung,

I think what he meant is done as far as further eligibility goes which is what we had been discussing. I haven't heard any talk of him coming back this season. I think that would be pretty tough.

In the Missoulian just recently, Krysko mentioned Seyfert may be ready before the season is over. If he is, It is unlikely he would be able to contribute much except maybe some defense at the end of a game.
