San Fransico Game Thread

Not a great start to the season. Griz looked marginal vs. Carroll and must have played poorly vs. SF. Weakness in the post vs. Division 1 teams and seems we're much more reliant on the 3 pointer than in the past. I agree some on Gregory. Looks pouty and unenthused in the couple games I've seen. He's always had the look of being "pissed off" at everything during games but so far this year the look seems more one of frustration with his own team/scheme.

Don't know if some of the early season projections are that far off.....

I honestly think we are over reacting to Jordan Gregory. They guy is always hard on himself when he is struggling with his shot. Add to that him being a team captain in his SR year. I think he is feeling the pressure. He has no Kareem or Will to take the pressure off him. He is very competitive and hates to lose. The biggest difference is a longer than normal shooting slump. He is still taking terrific shots. His ball distribution and penetration has improved. He is a better playmaker this season. Gregory is too good of a shooter to have this be a season long shooting slump. When his shots start to fall, the results for the his team will also improve.

I am not too worried about Gregory. He will break out of this slump.

Good Post and strongly agree. Shooters always find away out of slumps.

Well, he certainly did at Cal. Other than a puzzling free throw drought, he was once again a floor leader, and made some great plays.

Does anyone think Wayne would come back?

You must not remember Tinkle's first season here & how his first 6 games went with 5 of them being on the road.

Game 1: Win vs Montana-Western 83-42.
Game 2: 17 point loss on the road to a pretty good Utah Valley team (74-57)
Game 3: 5 point loss on the road to a mediocre Wyoming team (76-71)
Game 4: 17 point loss on the road to a good West Virginia team (73-56)
Game 5: 21 point beating on the road to a pretty good Virginia Tech team (77-56)
Game 6: 7 point win on the road against a bad Minnesota team (72-65)

2-4 with a pretty tough schedule with the first 5 out of 6 games being on the road. Sounds familiar huh?

Hey lets look at Coach K's first year here while we are at it... Now Coach K didn't start out with 5 out of 6 games being on the road since. He had the benefit of having some home games splitting up the tough road schedule. The Griz started out 4-7 overall in non conference (finished winning a couple home games to make it 6-7 in non-conference). Lets look at the road games.

First road game a 16 point loss to a very good Gonzaga team (78-62)
2nd road game a 26 point beating by a pretty good Western Kentucky team (72-46)
3rd road game a 3 point win over a mediocre SE Missouri State (69-66)
4th road game a 25 point beating by a decent Missouri team (87-62)
5th road game a 9 point loss to a pretty bad UC Santa Barbara team (55-46)
6th road game 21 point beating by a mediocre San Francisco team (79-58)
7th road game a 18 point loss to a pretty good Stanford team (84-66)

Hmm...1-6 on the road in non-conference.

We'll be fine. The Griz have played a couple good teams very tough (Boise and Cal), beat a Seattle team that's 3-3 right now and had a couple bad losses where they didn't play very well. It's a fairly young team and there have been a lot of positives that I've seen so far. I think the Griz will surprise a lot of teams in the Big Sky this year.

I think it is important to remember that Travis has none of his own recruits on this team. I think we will see a very different team, in terms of the type of players, in the coming seasons.
