Bingham

Guy-Bingham.jpg

...When Bingham was drafted by the New York Jets in the 10th round of the 1980 National Football League draft it was for a reason that fans with lesser knowledge may not have understood: he was an outstanding long snapper. Bingham had the ability to get the ball back to a punter or a holder quickly and accurately, something that didn’t go unnoticed by NFL scouts like the Jets’ Marv Sunderland, who made Great Falls his home. It was Sunderland who later signed UM players Rocky Klever and Kent Clausen.
Bingham spent nine years with the Jets as a long snapper and backup offensive lineman, then three years with the Atlanta Falcons, went through a tryout with the Philadelphia Eagles, then closed things out after two years with the Washington Redskins.
Earlier in his career during off seasons and helped by UM being on the quarter system Bingham returned to Missoula to complete his degree in health and physical education in 1983. “I managed to get a bachelor’s degree that required 195 credits and when I finally got it (because of occasional unavailability of courses he needed) I had 241 credits,” Bingham laughed, “so I made a little investment in the University of Montana.” Since his pro career came to a close in 1992 Bingham has been running Valley Vending, a company that stocks snack and beverage machines from Polson to Hamilton and St. Regis to Deer Lodge. He also operates Montana Coffee Express that provides business coffee service.

Ex Griz usually don't make it too far in the NFL, sadly.

Yeah. The two that were in the pro bowl a couple years ago suck.
Learn to read. I said usually. And you're talking about Dan and Marc, right? Both special teamers. How many griz players have lasted over 5 years? How many are starters and not on special teams? Stop being a dumbass.

Oh, forgive me. I wasn't aware being on special teams didn't count as "making it too far". For some silly reason I thought "making it" in the NFL meant making a roster, not having specific qualifiers that you keep changing.

You just keep changing the argument until you've made yourself happy. :thumb:

I think Jabin and others know that they are auditioning for all teams, not just the team that they are on. Look at Colt, he impressed the Eagles but they had to wait until they had room to bring him in. Hope Jabin can impress some other teams and get picked up if the Colts feel they don't need him.

Hilliard isn't a starter... Neither is beirmann. Not reading is awesome. And only that many over a long ass time.... You think that's usually lasting in the nfl? derpderp

You give a whole new meaning to the term "ass clown".

Colt hasn't actually "made it very far in the NFL" because he's not Dieon Sanders. He doesn't "start".

jcu---proving every day what a total retard he is.

Didn't Tuff Harris make the 5 year mark?

But really, the average life of a lot of NFL players isn't great.. prob about 5 years average..

Overall Average
According the the NFL Players Association, the average career of an NFL player is 3.3 years. The players left the NFL for a variety of reasons. These include injury, retirement and being cut by their team.

Actually, it varies according to source. Its over 6 years if the player is on the roster opening day of his rookie season.

People still don't know the meaning of starters. And yes, I don't consider being on special teams going far. Take off the maroon colored glasses. Jesus, I know the truth hurts. No reason to be blind to it though. And most these guys you all name are from a long time ago. How about current ex griz in the nfl? How many of them are starters. Get over it and accept the truth. Montana does great for fcs, yes. But you guys like to act like UM players are all stars in the nfl and there's a shit ton. And once again for you morons, I said usually. How many ex griz haven't lasted longer than 5 years and weren't starters or got cut from from teams or put on practice squad? Hell of a lot more.. Keep trying though it's funny.

Well obviously. We aren't USC or Miami, or any of the other programs bringing in 5 star recruit mega athletes...

No... we act like this is the best time UM has ever had for players in the pros (it is). That and we have pride in our neighbors, friends, fellow students, etc. finding success at the highest level, and in being arguably the best FCS representative in the pros.

So yes, we will makes posts every time someone does something positive in a game, or the preseason, or at camp, because it's awesome and we enjoy it

and that making it in the nfl in ANY capacity is a big deal. it's a huge deal. hell...i think it's sweet when guys get tryouts for nfl squads! you know how much work goes into even being a tiny blip on the radar of nfl teams?! it's remarkable.

jcu, you're a dad. try this and see if it skews your views. now, i know you have a daughter so she's not likely to be in the nfl. although, if she ends up being able to tackle like you she might be the first. ;) but what if you had a son and you watched him grow into a fine young man who also excelled on the field. so much so that he got a full ride to your beloved um. and after a great career he was signed in the nfl as an unrestricted free agent. lets say his first couple years he bounced around from one teams practice squad to another. would you bash his accomplishments? would you say it's nothing? would you tell him that he really wasn't in the nfl? i doubt it but if you said yes to ANY of these questions than this discussion is basically pointless.

The only ones to have anything positive this preseason is somewhat Trumaine, McSurdy for that first game, and Mariani. And I take pride in it too but, the truth is "usually" ex griz don't last. I can accept this. It's because it's fcs and not fbs. If Montana were FBS I think they'd bring in some amazing talent. But people want them to be at the fcs simply just for the playoffs. At least you can acknowledge that we aren't USC or any big time program. These other that have repeated what other people said probably think we are better than all fbs teams with the talent the griz have. And I've already agreed UM does the best in the fcs. And you guys act like I was saying it's a good thing that not many haven't had success. I did say sadly. I would love to see all griz players whooping ass in the nfl. But, that's not going to happen. And I hope all current ex griz in the nfl step up and be stand outs. This could happen, but not likely 2 or 3 could do this(imo Marc, Tru, or/and Biermann).

Special teams is 1/3 of a football game and is usually pretty important.. field position is determined by special teams.. typically the team with the best field position throughout the game wins.. so I don't see why you don't think people who play special teams aren't important..

Jesus, Cheech, give it a rest. Your stash running low today?

Nobody is saying that the Griz are USC or Bama, but for an FCS school we crank out a ton of NFL talent.

No one else has been even close at this level. Nuff said.
