Sam Herder on Humphrey

TBH, I think he is accurate as to why the Griz may struggle against good teams. I mean, the biggest questions for the Griz are QB, the running game, and how the DL stands up against top rushing teams like MSU. It isn't a secret.

Oh I agree, I do think the D Line will be better than expected but until it proves it you never know. RB I am concerned about. If Knight was healthy then I wouldn't be as concerned. Harris and Childs might prove to be great ball handlers though you never know.

I'm not entirely sure who Sam Herder is. Might as well be the opinion of "Paul" from the checkout line at Trader Joe's.

You know Paul? Small world.

Yeah. Fvcker tried to overcharge me on some Unexpected Cheddar. Listen, Paulie, I saw the sticker, it said two for $8.

And you don't think the Dline is gonna be any better now then it was in 2019?

I question how well a DL where the starters in a 3 man front go 230, 290, 240 and no LB’s over 230 will do against the run. I know they’ll rotate and some of the backups are larger, but that is very small for a 3 man front. How are they gonna keep that OL off the backers? It’s a legitimate concern.
I also share concerns about a 3 man front, where none are above 300 lbs, and two are below 250. I may be slightly biased, though, as I'm not a huge proponent of the 3-3-5 defense to start, but hopefully the Griz prove me wrong this year.

Chase Reynolds was a third string back that had to start. I think that turned out ok.
I always thought Levi Janacaro would be carrying the rock like Reynolds did. Can't wait for him to get an interception and do some power running.

Remember Alford and Gubner were on the field a lot together 2 years ago as underclassman at nose/d-end…..they are better players now in that 290 range and are both rotating in playing nose….but that can change in situational football when needed.

McGourin will have a coming out party this year if healthy at 6’5 270. I think he will play that other d-end alot this year and Babros/Belknap are there for the pass rush situations as much as possible with their skill sets. That spot usually ends up being a 3-tech over guard when they blitz…which is where I think he will thrive. Todd - Michigan State transfer - is the same build and possible fit for that role as well.

There is a misconception NDSU’s dline is all 300 across the board during this 10 year run. They aren’t. I bet the D-tackles have averaged 280 and usually 1 d-end in that 230-240 range and another one the 250-260 range

I was pretty surprised to see McGourin not starting for that exact reason, he adds some bulk. Like I said, I know that there will be some situational, and obviously rotation, but it seems to me that most of the time we were in a 3 man front. It’s hard to stop the run in a 3 man front without some bulk.

NDSU, like you pointed out, typically doesn’t have that big of a DL, but they’re running a 4 man front. More players for the gaps mean you can take smaller guys. Pretty hard for small DL to manage multiple gaps like a 3 man front requires. Mass does matter.

I guess until they show they can stop teams that are good at running the ball, I’m going to continue to be skeptical it will happen. I just don’t see schematically, with the players they have, how it’s going to happen.

You guys have a Trader Joe's?

Too many. Kind of a crappy grocery store if you ask me, but it's the closest to my house. Also, more yoga pants per capita than anywhere else in California, outside of an actual yoga studio.

It's a total PITA to shop there, but they do have some delectable items you cannot find anywhere else. The base for their fettuccine sauce is pure, uncut crack, I'm certain of it.

Lay off the pita. It's one of the few items that are worthy of purchase and makes the best grilling pizza crust ever. Just slather your crack and you'll see.

Truism, I'm certain.

Also, as much as a pain in the ass as it is, I'd shop at The Joes every damn day before I'd listen to a Sam Herder pod.

The charcuterie selection is second to none on the price/quality spectrum. Not a super big fan of the rest of it. But, the yoga pants. I’d suspect the Sam Herder pods are more like a Grocery Outlet.

Bag your own!

And not the good kind of bagging, as would be seen in yoga pants.
