Saints taking on big (Sky) boys

PSU will hang 60 on Carroll and it won't be any kind of close. For PSU to schedule a game like this is absurd, there is scheduling down and playing a D2, but to schedule down and play a NAIA? Are you f'ing kidding me?? PSU should be embarrassed.
This.

wagriz4life: i can choose not to support the griz and your world wont end.... agreed, that the griz cant recruit montana and win, but only 3 of 22 starters last year were montana boys - maybe change your name to cal state missoula? lighten up big fella.....

info: i have heard the howlett for the griz OC job too but the USD job makes more sense with the Casey Glenn (joe glenn's son) connection to Carroll College. the fact that the Griz dont recruit the State of Montana much anymore has soured me on the UM football - thus the name formergrizfan.
Huh?

We recruit the entire West, like any program would/should if it wants to succeed.

I don't understand at all. Should Shay have won the starting job over JJ strictly because he's from Montana? Bench Sambrano for Carver?

silenoz: i'm really not saying to put less talent on the field but when griz won their NC titles in 95 and 01 there were more montana kids on both sides of the ball . i'm guessing NDSU had a few in state boys on their NC team this year.....

And I can continue not to support Carroll College, the most over priced eductation in the state. Your boy Van Diest and his players are going to be baptized in Portland. You just better hope you'll have a team healthy to play South Dakota School of Mines or whoever the hell you play the next week.

University of San Diego 42 Asuza Pacific (NAIA) 40 USD was ranked in the top 25 of FCS at the end of the season. Carroll is 5-0 lifetime against Asuza. University of Sioux Falls went into Grand Forks a couple years ago and beat UND 27-13. Carroll is 4-2 against USF. Lindenwood beat No Colo by 1 last year in Greeley, Carroll is 1-1 lifetime against Lindenwood. so to say FCS and NAIA should never play is a stupid statement.

just to be clear, i am not saying Caroll College will beat PSU but give Mike Van Diest and Nick Howlett (who is rumored to be in the running for the U of South Dakota OC job) all summer to prepare for PSU, and the Vikes shouldnt look past CC. the biggest problem Carroll will have is matching up against PSU size in the trenches, carroll will have to rotate alot of players in and out. speed at the skill positions will be another concern but MVD will game plan and reletively close game would not surprise me.... early prediction PSU 31 Carroll 14. all bets are off if Howlett gets the USD offensive coordinator job.

No disrespect meant towards Carroll, they are a great NAIA team. But I agree with '68Griz. FCS should not play NAIA... there's no real point in an FCS team doing that. Playing down hurt PSU last year and may have cost them a chance at the playoffs. They were 7-4, but only 5 D1 wins.. Just playing down to Div2 in 2010 hurt the Griz the same way. 7 wins, but only 6 D1 wins.

Carroll will be going up against one of the top offenses in the Big Sky, and the top rushing offense in the Big Sky. PSU's defense also wasn't all that bad (#3 in total defense and .1 point away from being tied for #1 in rush defense).

PSU gave the Griz all they could handle last year in Missoula, and were up 21-10 at halftime. Of course this was the Pre-Weber State game Griz, but still, that's pretty impressive.

As neat as it'd be to see Carroll hang with PSU, I just don't see it happening. If I had to guess, I'd guess the score ends up something like 49-3, with it being well over by halftime. It could be much uglier if PSU doesn't take their foot off the gas in the 2nd half.

How the f*ck did you come to the conclusion that the Griz don't recruit the state of Montana anymore? Are you that stupid to think we could sign 20 Montana kids and still be competitive????? This ain't NAIA bud.

Montana kids are entitled to D-I scholarships and starting positions based stricly on where they went to high school....I'm surprised you didn't know that.

Remeber when Montana used to be full of badasses? Now for some reason we have a bunch of pansies a with big sky sized sense of entitlement. I sure hope Montana athletes don't share this same loser attitute. If you aren't good/big/fast/strong enough, get better/bigger/faster/stronger. Don't blame the coaches for not recruiting you, it's their job to win games, not pander to you. I'm tired of all the losers in the country constantly playing the victim card.

Ugh....

17 North Dakotans on team this year. Draw your own conclusions. 2 starters.

first of all, NAIA is fully equivalent to D2, this is well known and documented with win/loss stats. This past Dec. they played the first ever d2vs naia all star game and it came down to the last minute with d2 making a 2pt conversion to win. D3, now thats the different planet you are referring to, they really are at a glorified high school level and should never be mentioned in the play up or down threads. As for the Carroll-PSU game, if Carroll were to win that or any other naia/fcs match up, it is because the naia team that beats the fcs team has enough talent overflow on their team to compete. It happens dude, just not that often.

Based on what I've heard from NDSU fans on AGS and CS.com, it sounds like most of their team is from MN. I could take two seconds to research that but... nah

I think we will all be pleasantly surprised... Carroll could win this. Don't forget that Carroll has 6 months to review tape & they have a smart, capable coach.

Go Saints!

There were 7 main contributors on Defense from Montana on the 2001 team (of the top 20 tacklers). In 2011 there were 6 from Montana of the top 20. Not exactly a big difference.

On offense, there were 5 of the top 12 contributors (not counting O-Linemen, since I couldn't find number of starts for them), compared to 3 for 2011. Again, not a huge difference. And remember which player really was the main focus of the entire offense in 2001. He wasn't from Montana... Where would that team have been without Yo? Not in the NC, that's for sure.

The whole "Montana kid" vs "out of state kid" argument is ridiculous... Once they've enrolled at the U of M they are a Montana kid as far as I'm concerned. Who gives a flying fuck where they were born...did they have any control over that?

I have no problem with you being a "former" Griz fan, but your reasoning as to why you are a former Griz fan is ridiculous, and not even based in reality.

Equal? HOOEY!!

At least the NCAA calls for a modicum of accountability when it comes to performance enhancing drugs. NAIA is wild-west time:

what!!???!! carroll is better than any division 2 team we've played this decade, including ndsu when we played them, and psu is not as good as us. so just based on that this is much better than our games with fart lewis and western states insurance. cc is better than cwu, which gave us all we could handle and its not a stretch to think cc would be in the d2 playoffs annually. therefore, cc has a very good chance of giving psu a good run and even winning. i think cc will be breaking in a new qb, but psu loses their qb and rb.

okay, NDSU was a bad example but my point is that in a couple of chippers Carroll was not the most athletic team on the field as when the saints played northwest okla state with patrick clayton (dallas cowboys wr) at quarterback and the 2010 game against a bigger more athletic sioux falls team. a great game plan and kids knowing the offensive and defensive schemes can go a long way but ultimately the carroll kids play for each other and the name on the front of the uniforms not the name on the back..... give carroll a mountain to climb (psu game) and they will surprise even the most arrogant griz fans.... just my 2 cents....

They're not better than that CWU team

PSU-Carroll will not be close. FormerGrizFan sounds bitter for some reason. He also sounds like one of the delusional Saints fans from Helena my brother keeps telling me about.
