He has his 2018 list out. There are 7 fcs teams in his top 100
36- ndsu at 77.79
66- sdsu at 70.28
78- uni at 67.27
80- jmu at 66.27.
91- ysu at 63.59
99- ill. St. at 61.39.
100- ewu at 61.14
136- Montana at 53.69
I find interesting that neither of the "top" fcs teams from yesterday's game were not listed, after watching a little of the game I think both were way overrated.

Five MVFC teams in the top 100 might be a bit much. Also, how many penalties were called in the Jack State game? Typical first game slopfest.

UNI ahead of JMU. Wow; we'll see; a real chance to move up. He really likes the MVFC.

Not quite typical, although there were certainly a lot of penalties called. It's normal to see a lot of Offsides and False Starts, with some Holding now and then. But it was the number of 15-yarders that really stood out ... Unnecessary Roughness and Unsportsmanlike Conduct.

An interesting point, keeping mind that the 98-yard TD kick return does not count as "offense." NC A&T actually "gained" more yardage via penalties (149) than they did on offense (148). I know, the penalties came both on offense and defense, but I thought this was a pretty funny stat.

Dang, UNI at 78 and Montana at 136. We don’t have a chance.

By the way I honestly think the Griz will win each week until I am proven wrong.
Go Griz.

I haven't checked the box scores to see how many penalties were called. A & T was really good last year and from what I understand several of the kids played against each other in high school, so there's that. I actually enjoy watching these kind of games more than than most out here because these kids really have a chip on their shoulder.

Go Griz.

To fully understand Sagarin ratings you have to look at more than the rank. One easy way to do this is to also look at the rating and then add in home field advantage.

For Example:

UNI: Rank 78; Rating 67.27

Montana: Rank 136; Rating 53.69; Home Field 2.36; Total 56.05

So we are still considered underdogs.

However, on further examination of the Rating scale, you will see that this scale is an aggregate of three predictor models. Two of these models use actual points scored during the season. So, they really don't count right now. The third model uses recent scores, which I assume use at at least the last game from last season. It's this third model that is driving the current Sagarin rankings.

The model is built to become more accurate as more data (games) are added to it.

I read that NC A & T had 14 penalties yesterday and still beat East Carolina. Maybe Jacksonville State is going to be okay this year.
