Safety Play Has Been Very Good This Year

I'm sorry to inform you doubters, and know-nothings, but safety play has been quite good this year. It was better last year than all of you doubters thought. Last year, Hermie was hurt the whole season, with a foot injury and disc injury. Surgery in the off-season. Hermie had 18 tackles today. Each had a TFL. Did you notice some of the safety tackles and fills. Quick and aggressive. Dead on, hard and solid.

Hermie played out of his mind! He was flying all over the field. He was hitting hard too....harder than he hit the large wood signs that got in his way a few weeks ago! Great game Hermanson!

I don't like it when our safety has 18 tackles in a game. Carry on... :coffee:

When teams run alot, and go to the edges, it is critical for safeties to come up fast and hard, and make many tackles. They need to "fill".

Yes, this season safety play has been much better. They have certainly done their part defensively this season. With that said, as a whole, safety play was inconsistent last season. I do know Hermanson's dropoff was from injury. However, would have it not made sense to try finding someone else to play there while he was injured? Plus, Tully was not injured last season, and his play was inconsistent too.

Good thing this season they have improved dramatically. Hermanson had a few very hard hits against Cal Poly as well. Here is to hoping that kind of hitting continues throughout the season.

A lot of us have and were praising Hermanson for his play. For you to make a thread like this just to call everyone doubters and know- nothing's just goes to show that you truly are a pompous a$$hole

Totally agree!! This is part of the job playing safety.

Didn't mean to hurt your feelings and make you cry. Sorry.

IF the safety is making the tackle, we've already lost (too many yards gained). I agree Hermi played his best game as a Griz. He was hitting hard.

P.S. How many tackles by their safeties yesterday? (I don't know)

totally agree. It has been said by others but arguably Tully and Hermy are two of the most improved this year. I would also add that the corners are playing at a higher level. Goodwin has been great and I think it was Dennard that had a huge play yesterday in the open field.

agree that a lot of tackles from the safety position is not a good indicator of a strong defense. However, not sure that is true in defending the triple option. It is assignment football and it is really up to the safety to come up and "fill" on the edges, which Hermanson was clearly doing. He really "stepped up" and played an awesome game---- some of his tackles were bone-crunching and he's really not all that big. Also appreciated that they were true tackles and not these "bumps" that so many d.b.'s are now using.

Wrong, it called assigment football.. The ends and backsers all have assignments they need to cover which leaves an assigment for the saftey to come up and stop the play when ur playing against an option team.. Its just the way the cookie crumbles.

If we ran an option offense like Cal Poly, their saftey would have a buttload of tackles too..
