Wow, heartbreaking loss. Bring on Weber State and the 2nd season. This team does have heart.
It does. But whether it's just lack of experience (shouldn't be, by now) or some fundamental flaws, they seem to lack (collectively) the basic talent and skills needed to win against even halfway-decent opponents.

This team does not have a starting quality 3 or 5. It lacks any type of pure shooter or scorer. There is a lot of offseason work to be done.

Totally agree.

Travis has run the same offensive sets for the past 8 years and I’m not saying it’s wrong. His overall record speaks for itself. However two things, has the college game changed to the point where this offense is no longer relevant? Or is Travis with his current personnel trying to fit a round peg in a square hole?
Let the debate begin.

They have the scorers. They lack consistency, creativity, and execution in getting them good looks. If we somewhat committed to freeing up Vazquez like we do Beasley, it could make a difference. Instead, we have a very little utilized perimeter shooter, who can't get it going.

We don't adjust well to teams slowing down our offense. It seems, once we're figured out, we don't counter very well.

Hate to say it, but Bannan, Beasley, and Whitney seem to be the primary focus every game. From there, it's a crapshoot as to utilize anyone else. Parker gets his, but only because he's the primary ball handler, when he's in. The problem is, even with Parker, we don't look beyond the big 3. Owens, DCH, and Vazquez are relegated to taking what they can get. The lack of utilization, inconsistent minutes, etc have created inconsistent results and lacking confidence from 3 players who are very capable.

This is the season, we should have gone to a 9 or 10 man rotation. Somehow, Travis needs to step out of his 7 man comfort zone rotation. I really do feel for DCH, Vazquez, and Owens.

Somehow, it looks like, the big build up of the big 3 has led to very little development of the other class. Parker is consistent in his role. Martin is inconsistent also.

Something isn't right with chemistry.

this team didn't realize how important Mack Anderson was....his absence has caused them to flounder.

Completely agree with this post. He has gone all in on Martin and buried Vasquez(only pure shooter) on end of bench. I don't think TD could care less if DCH, Owens and Vasquez left the program

I won't go that far. DeCuire cares about his players. He's just very set in his ways. With that said, I wouldn't be surprised, if any combination of the 3 transferred. I'd certainly understand, if either did transfer. Then again, all 3 are team guys. Vazquez and Owens are happy go lucky, easy going, and likely roll with things. DCH, is more aggressive and expressive, I feel more likely to speak up, stand his ground etc.

If I were either of the 3, I'd be asking the staff a lot of questions. I'd tell them, I'm disappointed in my role, inconsistent minutes, etc. What is needed to be a big part of the rotation? I'm here to win, be a major contributor, not sit. Then, I'd practice and work out with a mean ass attitude, just to prove him wrong. Will that attitude be at Montana or another Big Sky program?

As a coach, I'd want to see a player fight for playing time. That kind of attitude would sit well with me, and earn a player respect, as long as they're not dividing the team. Maybe, that's just what these 3 need to do. Gamble on yourself, when you're at a crossroad.

For all intents and purposes, they have bet the program on Whitney, Beasley, Bannan and Martin. And while all the players have their strengths, other than Bannan I am not sure the others have yet justified that status.

Whitney, Beasley and Bannan all played 30+ mins in conference. Martin over the last half of conference also played 30+. This will make it extremely difficult to attract players in the portal because if you are transferring you are most likely looking for a place where you can play a significant role. Seems like Montana can only offer complimentary roles. And good luck finding a decent big man in the portal. These are the white whales that are essentially pursued by everyone. It’s always funny to me that people talk about the portal like it’s a fast food drive thru. “I’ll take 2 6’11s and an athletic 6’7 shooter please.” Doesn’t happen that way. It will also be more difficult because the Griz don’t really have any portal success stories to sell (unlike basically the entire rest of the BSC).

Agree with you. I too feel, Bannan is the only player to have truly earned the majority of the minutes. You know what you can expect from Bannan game to game. Plus he's gradually gaing a Sayeed and Gregory like attitude, meaning he fights as hard as anyone, practices more than anyone, and won't be denied.

I guarantee, Bannan's game will continue to get better. Speaking of which, I hope he can consistently find the backside perimeter shooters when the defense overly focuses on him. Often there are open backside shooters and or cutters. He doesn't recognize those kind of things yet.

What game are you watching ? I can NEVER see any cutters to the rim and "shooters" , well we know how that goes.
Bannan will get better IF he gets rid of that middle school outside shot form (was a thing of beauty at the end of his freshman year, why did he change it ? )

You're right. I should have clarified potential backside cutters, especially from the baseline.

Betting the program on Whitney, Beasley and Bannan is uninspiring, at best. We're a long way from the Rorie, Oguine, Akoh era.

See it almost exactly like you. Problem is there IS NO off ball motion in this offense most of the time. It's so passive that it makes you want to pull your hair out watching it. Whatever the combination of personnel and design is, it needs to be revamped. The second half of the conference slate made that crystal clear. Really can't recall a more monumental collapse and I've gone to games since Selvig and Glass were on the roster.

Compared to many teams, there isn't as much motion. Also, without Mack, there aren't many true contact screens. Probably less than a handful per game.

and what do 2/3 of that group have in common? They weren't recruited by/developed by TD and his staff....

True, recruiting imo is the biggest hurdle for the Griz right now.
