Don’t worry, we’ve never won in Missoula lol.
But such a small sample size, 0-12.

Hahahaha. Another interesting note - Sac State is 10-1 in their last 11 BSC games, including wins over EWU, UM, and MSU on the Road.

So the loss of around 12 starters, two of which just up and left the team, isn’t a crisis? Holy Christ I would hate to see what constitutes a crisis for this team. If it were any other team at all, it would be a crisis, but since it’s our team we put our maroon colored glasses on and tell ourselves it’s all ok?

Is bringing up the fact that about 12 players are out for a variety of unspecified reasons (including but not limited to blown knees, ankles, COVID, flu, sore feet) uncomfortable for you? It’s apparently something we as griz fans should get used to.

Nope I'm not worried. I'm not the one who needs the paper bag. :thumb:

Teams have their season derailed or negatively impacted by the injury bug/illness (obviously more of a concern now with Covid) all the time. I'm flabbergasted as to how you think it's unique to the Griz.

Did I say it was unique to UM?

12 starters out? Where the hell are you coming up with that figure? Exaggerate much? How many players do you think “start”? TG wasn't even on the 2-deep. It’s not a crisis unless you make it one.

I guess I could see 5 starters out temporarily (not “lost”), altho I think that could even be a stretch.
Only a couple on O (CH and CK, unless you are counting MK). And maybe 2 on D (GR and JB). I thought Belknap played last week.

Sac State will have the throwback logo on their helmets with all whites to compliment the 2001 Griz throwbacks.

First off, Everything shows that Sac State is a decent football team. I didn’t say good…I said decent. Average probably for the Big Sky and slightly above average for the total FCS. What does that mean? It means that they have the ability to walk into Washington Grizzly Stadium. In front of a 2001 Championship team and ruin our day, week and outlook for the rest of the season. This is a game that I think the teams from the last 15 years would have struggled with. I think this is a team that can smack you in the mouth and beat you on any given week. They have quite a bit of talent on this roster. They have dual QBs that could give you fits in scheme. They have RBs with talent and versatility, and they have an offense that is built to capitalize on an aggressive D. Scare anyone? Well it probably should.
The Griz are at a point where we need to see what we really are. We a huge Win early, a tough loss early and then a disappointing win. A good team will come out and play most of, if not a complete game and win this game going away by 2-3 scores. This griz team has all the adversity right now! We are injured, we have been sick, we lost our starting QB, we have played poorly on offense, and we have worn on our defense. This game this weekend will tell me if this team is up for the challenge, are we going to start to put some things together mid season and down the stretch? Or are we going to struggle again find an offense and pray to god that our defense and special teams save our ass? Were mid season, playbooks are fully open, concepts are understood, talent level needs to start to show. What are the Griz? We are about to find out.
Offense- This is what we call need to see. Can Brown start to stretch defenses down field and not make mistakes in his second game? We will see, I bet he looks a whole lot more consistent this weekend than last. Sac state on defense is a mixed bag. Sometimes they give up 350+ passing (CAL,SUU). Sometimes they stop teams to less than 150 passing(UNI, ISU). They seem to have good talent on the back end of their defense but the are very inconsistent. They are decent ball-hawks with 7 INTS this year and they get almost 2 sacks a game. They are chippy and make stupid mistakes. To me, this has all the makings of a huge game by Akem and Grossman. If we can move the pocket a little bit, I think it makes defenses do something they cant prepare for and that’s cover our WR/TEs in space. Let Brown move with the play and not feel pressured into a pass that might not be there. Running wise, Sac gives up almost 150 a game. We should be able to put up more on this team with the talent of Harris. The only issue is, do we have any depth behind him to keep the wheels moving when he sits every 3rd play. To be determined. Honestly, I expect Brown to look much better this game, somewhere in the mid 60’s percentage wise, around 250 yards in the air. I’m calling for 2 TDs in the Air and one on the ground for Brown. Atleast 1 for Harris as well. I think both Akem and Grossman get a Tuddy this week.

Defense- Listen, we are beat up…and sick…but I think we get a few of those dudes back this week. I think we continue to see this D put up a fight. Sac State is going to get some yards. Don’t be worried to see Sac moving the ball some. Our defense shines as the field starts to shrink and quite frankly. Sac Stae is awful in the redzone. They are bad on 3rd down and only score TDs I the redzone half the time. That has all the makings for a FG game for Sac State, they do that well however. Sac gives up the ball atleast 2 time a game, good chance we see a Defensive score or big play this week. Confusing you even more. Sac St gave up 3 sacks to SUU and 4 to Dixie. 0 to UNI and 0 to Cal. We obviously should get a few, but with the presence of a running QB subbing in and out, it should give us a few more challenges to get any. They only threw 17 times at SUU, but they threw 57 and 55 vs UNI and CAL. All their stats show…they are going to try to pass. If they can be successful, they will do it a lot. If they can’t, then they will just run a lot of different ways. They also could do that in reverse order, run until stopped and then pass like crazy. Overall this week our D has to be disciplined and aware of all the possible options. If we do that, we should be able to limit Sac scores and force them to continue to shoot themselves in the foot. Both with turnovers, penalties, and poor 3rd down execution.

Special Teams, Sac looks decent in the ST category. They are pretty good in the FG dept. making 10/13 on the year and 5/5 in the conference so far. They also tend to have a pretty good punt average of +45. I don’t expect either of those to change this week. However, they are not so great on kickoffs. They average just 18 yards per return on kickoff. On coverage again they are a mixed bag! Cal scorched them for multiple big returns. Dixie, ISU and UNI struggled to get to the 25 against them however. So I guess we will wait and see. I would not be shocked to see Flowers take one to the house if they are stupid enough to let him see the football. Their kicker has the leg to get it to the endzone, I assume they try that a whole bunch this weekend.

Final thoughts. This is the game for me where I can start to see where this team goes the rest of the year. I think we will always get up for the UW or EWU’s. Can we execute and play well vs mid level teams? I think we do tomorrow. I think we are able to move the ball and have a few long drives. I see the offense putting up around 32-35. With the D or ST adding a score. I think Sac is going to struggle to get in the endzone. They probably will burn us a time or two between QB runs and a long shot. I assume they will target Ford after he showed is a little up and down at times. Overall, I think we as fans are going to be unsatisfied but okay at halftime. Probably with a 17-6 type score. Then the second half I think this thing opens up and it ends around the 42-16 area. Again, I think we will see some new things to get Brown comfortable and ready to lead this team as he gets more and more time. Then we will see this team settle in and believe that they are a top 10 and 5 team week in and week out.

Good post. I hope it turns out the way you predict but it wouldn't surprise me to see a much closer game. One thing for sure, I agree that this game is going to tell us a lot about where we are. I see us with a chance to be tested tomorrow, grow in confidence, continue to improve, get healthier each week, and hopefully be primed for a good playoff run at the end of the season. But first, a good Sac St team needs a butt kicking tomorrow!

Go Griz!

So how is Cam doing. I never heard the extent I’m his injury. Or are we not talking about this to keep the other teams guessing.

Your play by play radio guy was on Sacramento radio today and said Humphrey was practicing this week in full pads and that he would be a gametime decision.

Wow, that would be great, but I'll believe it when I see it.

I’ve never see a high ankle sprain heal that quick and we can only assume that a high ankle sprain would have been the BEST case scenario

I don't see Riley as someone who would just make shit up...

The full pads thing might be true but he may have made up the game time decision part. I could see this being similar to the Idaho game in 2019 where Cam started and they suited up Sneed just in case and Sneed came in to relieve a struggling Cam.
